@IdeaspaceNI @belfastcc Remember when they used to put the bins back in the alley? Now they just leave them everywhere, blocking pavements and looking am absolute state.
English

So this is the calibre of work we get for increased rates. Just empty the bins and leave any shit in the middle of the road that falls out. Then we wonder why Belfast is a mess. @belfastcc

Big news down @bannfoot – the access road to west bank has now been repaired after decades of neglect.
Great surface leading the whole way to the river.
@JohnODowdSF's "feasibility report" on footbridge – draft completed & currently being considered.

Historical map from 1832 showing a crossing at the @bannfoot (earliest map available on #PRONI) showing it has been a strategic crossing point for centuries.
The crossing at Maghery doesn't appear on maps until 1905

@CircleLineBT There was a halt at the Maze??? Nd they decided NOT to build a national stadium there??? OMG. Joined up thinking isn't the privilege of other countries. Mind blown.
English

@nchambers_geog @profkdlilley @SustransNI When the issue first came up at Council in 2018 Carla Lockhart wrote an objection that literally claimed an increase in burglaries if there was a footbridge. Which is genuinely mind boggling.
English

@nchambers_geog @profkdlilley @SustransNI Their reasons are around anti social behaviour & I think increased numbers of people going through the village. Those on the Columkille side know these are non issues. But in truth they think their objections should outweigh the overwhelming support in the rest of the community
English

indeed, not a 'vanity project' but a key bit of #sustainable travel and tourism infrastructure linking up long-distance @SustransNI #cycle routes along the shore of Lough Neagh bringing visitors to the area and serving local people 🚴👇

@PortadownTimes1 Some Unionist politicians again forgetting that Charlestown does not constitute the entirety of the 'local community'. Every river has two sides and Sinn Fein are not the only party in favour.

Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart says residents of Charlestown are opposed to a bridge over the River Bann at the Bannfoot following proposals by Infrastructure Minister John O'Dowd for a feasibility study

@CircleLineBT @AineGroogan I can assure any minister that there would be no support for a car bridge at the Bannfoot from anyone in the community. Raging support for a footbridge, but a car bridge would require a whole infrastructure leading to and from it that simply does not exist
English

@AineGroogan Some sounds from minister of @bannfoot being a car bridge when original desire was foot/bike. Thats the "green" test. I can SF blocking for fear of dimished power, DUP for blocking any attempt to get around their Stormont blockade. But UUP is a weird one.
English

This is beyond frustrating!! Dont want to work at Stormont & dont want councils to work either. We're continually frustrated by inaction of gov depts, I don't understand the unwillingness to discuss how to make councils work better & help transform this city. People want better.
Mal O’Hara (he/him)@oharamal
Disappointed that SF/DUP aided by the UUP blocked our motion tonight. It’s clear DFI is not fit to transform this city as evidenced by its absolute failure to do so during the pandemic. Most local authorities our size have these powers and once again Belfast is left behind.
English

@jsni It's a great spot isn't it? Imagine the view you'll get from the bridge.
English

Kudos to @deptinfra Minister @JohnODowdSF for commissioning a feasibility study into reinstating the Bannfoot crossing when the River meets Lough Neagh (it previously had a hand operated ferry on a rope!)

@foot_rave @Belfast_Rubble Why would through traffic be keeping those businesses going? You couldn't park there anyway. If anything the whole area should be pedestrianised, it's the people who spend money not cars.
English

Remember how Peter Boyle, owner of the Argento stores, said this should be demolished? If they'd listened to him we'd have another surface car park, and nothing on the site for 20 years!
