It would be an extraordinary event to pass up the advantages in a primary of running as the incumbent VP. Biden's the only VP to become president after passing on running as the immediate successor, & it took a global pandemic to make that possible.

Conservatives unhappy with Reagan's actions would say he was being betrayed by his staff. Their slogan: "Let Reagan Be Reagan." Now, Trumpies upset with the war are basically saying that Trump is betraying Trump. Their rallying cry could be: "Trump, Let Trump Be Trump!"

Reaganism exists - long after there is no such thing as, say, Bushism - because it's a legible, coherent philosophy. Trumpism will exist as long as Trump is in power, but its survival after that will involve a lot of heated contention over what it means beyond the man himself.
