A fellow shut-in has an unhealthy obsession with the ostscout that i never understood until yesterday when i actually ran one in a mekhq campaign, where the commander of my recon lance cold cocked a Griffin that tried to violate his personal space. In the very next mission as two merlins and a victor were pushing up a hill under fire from a 0/1 jade falcon pilot in a rotal Warhammer, as a viper was duking it out with my grasshopper, this same ostscout rolls up behind the Warhammer, and as he's being swarmed by a point of elementals, opens up the back armor and detonates the ammo before jumping into a nearby lake the next turn to drown the elementals(who were the target of this assassination mission. The turn after that the grasshopper fumbles a charge attack on the viper while the ostscout wades out of the lake, rips off the viper's arm and smashes its cockpit. In the wake of this i finally see what my friend sees. I like to think the ostscout was flipping off the ejecting Warhammer pilot as he leapt into the lake.

Not about about the individual battlemech but the idea: A lance of Chargers. The #Battletech version of a "Distraction Carnifex." Individually not a threat but 4 of them working together in say an "Order Lance" is more than enough to keep your opponents attention. And cheap too.
