I believe that if you eat meat, it’s important to participate in the process.
Picking up packaged meat at the grocery store doesn’t unearth the same feelings that killing and butchering an animal does. It bypasses the sensitivity, the emotions, and the shock that you would feel during animal processing.
Even though I work for ranchers and am a big advocate for eating high quality pasture raised meat for human health, I still struggle with it sometimes. I love animals and feel connected to them.
You’re ingesting another life. You’re using its flesh to give you energy. Animals and humans may have different designs of consciousness, but we both have breath, life, unique frequencies, and energy. Both deserve honor and respect.
Instead of running from the difficult feelings and ignoring the killing and butchering process to keep myself comfortable, I participate. When I’m helping process animals, I think about my ancestors who did this for thousands of years before me. I express gratitude for the animal’s nourishment. I honor its body by using the energy and nutrients it gives me to positively contribute to the earth and humanity.
Not everyone needs to be a hunter, butcher, or rancher. I’m certainly not a professional and don’t want to do that full time. But I join the process when I can so I can pay my respects towards the animal. So I can have more gratitude for the ranchers who take on the burden of dealing with death every day so their communities can be nourished.
If you’re not quite ready to kill or handle a dead animal, simply praying for your meat and giving thanks for the animal before eating it is a great way to be more involved in the process. 🙏
