I decided to test the nemotron-3-nano:30b model on my MacBook M1 Pro. First, after installing Ollama, a clean web UI pops up. There is also an intuitive command line interface and API functionality. But… when I tried running even simple queries, I quickly hit system resource limits on my M1 Pro. This 30B MoE model (with ~3.5B active params) is significantly larger than typical “small” Ollama models. I’d love to experiment more on a contained NVIDIA platform like DGX Spark, but availability and cost are big factors here in South Africa. Has anyone gotten Nemotron 3 Nano running smoothly on Apple Silicon or mid-tier hardware? But, NVIDIA’s Nemotron family seems impressive — fully open models with released weights, training data, and recipes, all designed for building efficient, high-performance specialised AI agents. Nemotron 3 Nano is a single, versatile model for both heavy reasoning and simple tasks. It typically generates an internal chain-of-thought trace before the final answer, which you can toggle via the chat template. Keeping explicit reasoning on usually gives sharper, more accurate results on tough prompts — though you can hide it for direct responses. It’s primarily English-focused but performs strongly in German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Japanese too. I have a contract with @Vodacom that comes to an end soon and I know that - if I don’t cancel it - they’ll keep billing me on a month to month basis. I have spent 2 hours trying to do that and every number/service I use doesn’t work. Am I the only one to have this experience?
