@KazusaOkaya The Japanese were famously religiously intolerant when they banned Christianity under the Tokugawa regime.

@thetshirtedone But knights have shoulder plates too. Also I don’t see how you can use shoulder plates to knock points aside, or beat an enemy’s point into the ground.

There is no objectively "best sword", because a sword needs to be paired with a fighting style in order to work. A weaponsmith at the Texas Ren Faire told me about the time he was at another Ren Faire (not in Texas), and a shirtless guy cosplaying a barbarian (I assume) admired one of the smith's Italianesque schiavonas. He picked it up, and the smith said, "Careful. It's sharp." The faux barbarian said, "Don't worry. I'm an expert." He then immediately started doing Kendo-style katana movies. The smith went to stop him, but it was too late. Faux barbarian slid the schiavona over his shoulder (perfectly safe with a katana) and the double-edged, razor blade left a 6 inch gash in his trapezius.

@TheRabbitHole Capitalism has killed hundreds of millions with the drug trade, slave trade, man-made famines and colonial wars alone.

When kids become teens, often there are disputes with parents, but GRANDPARENTS stay cool always. So my gorgeous teenage granddaughter begged me to run a roleplaying game for her and her friends, so Sandy Petersen’s now gamemastering for a passel of teen girls. An interesting thing is we started out playing RuneQuest and they liked it. But one day I forgot my materials and so I said “Hey let’s play Call of Cthulhu instead.” Turns out they ADORED Call of Cthulhu. Modern era? Spooks?! It’s like - scary movie, yay!! We’re still playing that campaign. They’re investigating the nuclear Lake Chagan in Kazakhstan, and have discovered that the A-bomb creating it wasn’t really to make a canal, but to destroy a mi-go base. But the base is still there, under the radioactive water and it’s… stirring. Fun stuff.

Our team visited the Bring Kids Back installation on the National Mall. Russia has abducted over 20k Ukrainian children. Each teddy bear represents a child & serves as a reminder of these horrific war crimes. Russia must be held accountable & these children must be returned home safely.

This is the exact plot of several science fiction books. In my favorite, "The Voyage that Lasted 600 Years" from 1940(!), they travel in a generation ship which, as always happens in novels, degenerates into a violent repressive dystopia. When they arrive the humans, who invented hyperdrive a few years after the generation ship left, have therapists ready and a thriving colony. There’s also the related concept of Joe Haldeman’s Forever War, in which the soldiers use relativistic travel to fight the alien foe, so they never get older while the universe does. After thousands of years of this (in which they've only aged a few decades), they find that both the human and the alien enemy have evolved into a gestalt telepathic overmind and have joined together. So the overmind, which is benign, sends the unevolved soldiers to a paradise planet to live out their days.

My friend picks up a gold nugget from the ground. I dig a mine in the land on which he found it, and me and 10 other men spend 2 years digging for gold, after which we find a gold nugget of equal size. Which nugget is worth more? Me and my 10 buddies spent a LOT more time on the labor.
