@bartbarber Can you share more about the months ago process of exegetical work? Did you do it months ago as part of weekly rhythms or in a particular study break or something else?

By the time I get to Monday morning, the exegetical work has been done—done MONTHS ago. There's still a little work to do on the sermon, but one of the most important things that happens from now to Sunday is just meditating on the passage and on the sermon. This helps me…

For those of you that think the Bible is cool with slavery, consider these 14 points: 1. Israelites could own one another at the beginning of the Exodus (Ex 21:2). 2. Israelites could not own one another by end of the wilderness (Lev 25:42; Deut 15:12-18) 3. But Gentiles could be owned by Israelites as an act of judgment upon them (Lev 25:44-46). 4. Slavery in Israel thereafter was due to their disobedience to God (Deut 28:68; Neh 5, 9:36-37; Jer 34). 5. Anytime Israelites were owned by a foreign power, the Bible presents this as negative: Israel in Egypt, Babylon, etc. 6. Noah and his sons owned no slaves when God began creation again. 7. Paul says if you’re a slave when you become a Christian, don’t worry about it, but if you can be freed, do it (1 Cor 7:21-24). 8. Paul told Philemon to free Onesimus, to put his debt on Paul. Onesimus is free in Colossians 4:9. So, Philemon set him free. 9. Jesus did not own slaves. 10. None of the apostles owned slaves. 11. If Israelites are forbidden to own one another in the Old Testament, Christians are forbidden as well to own one another in the New Testament. 12. And if the gospel has now went to the Gentiles and is not peculiarly for Israel, then Christians are to win sinners to Christ, not own them as judgment. 13. God permitted slavery for a time after the Exodus, gradually limiting it more and more until abolishing it entirely in the New Covenant, for now Israel and the Gentiles are one in Christ (Gal 3:28). 14. There are no slaves in Heaven today, and there will be no slaves in the New Heavens and New Earth. #Slavery #AbolishSlavery #Freedom

The serpent introduced three doubts that still echo today: • Did God really say? • Is God really generous? • Are there really consequences? Every temptation is ultimately an invitation to distrust the character of God.
