@insatiablevine Easy on praising Gov. MeeMah. She announced yesterday not to call a special election and for the last 24 hours got bombarded with kind messages to reconsider. The AG filed Motion with SCOTUS to expedite ruling on a pending case on this issue, so she flipped positions today.

@SamSkyler_ @realstewpeters @realDonaldTrump Maybe he read Campbell v Clinton, 203 F.3d 19 (DC Cir. 2000) and realized courts can’t stop him. Seperation of Powers debate on this issue has been going on since Constitutional Congress of 1787 and settled on Declare War language and gave President CiC powers.

@DavidVance They just setting up the facts in a favorable light to make any legal challenge more challenging than it currently is. WPA “violations” go nowhere in court any ways, but creating your own fact pattern is prudent. See Campbell v Clinton, 203 F. 3d 19 (DC Cir 2000).

@SenSchumer Sounds like the angry Republicans when Clinton ignored Congress and attacked Bosnia any way. In light of DOGE, save money and just use same pleadings as in Campbell v Clinton. End result will be same, but at least you can save money to help make things more affordable.

@TonerousHyus Wild last 24 hours in Alabama. Gov. “MeeMaw” as she is known locally said no to a special election yesterday, AG file Expedited Motion with SCOTUS on a pending appeal that had blocked a new map, and now she caved and called for special session.

@MahyarTousi WPA is unenforceable in US courts any ways. Campbell v Clinton, 203 F.3d 19 (DC Cir. 2000). Impeachment, exercise power of purse, or vote in next election are remedies. Trump can keep doing what he wants until then.

@kylegriffin1 Campbell v Clinton, 203 F.3d 19 (DC Cir. 2000) supports his position. WPA alleged “violations” are unenforceable in court. It’s a political question and only remedies are impeachment, exercise power of purse, or express views by vote in next election.

BREAKING: Trump just told Congress he doesn't need war authorization due to the shaky ceasefire with Iran. Today is the war's 60th day — the deadline the War Powers Resolution of 1973 designates for a president to get authorization. There's zero consensus Trump can do this.

@ItsTheEnforcer Campbell v Clinton, 203 F.3d 19 (DC Cir. 2000). Alleged WPA violations are political question and can’t be enforced in court anyways. Impeachment, exercising power of purse, or voting in next election are available remedies.

@JKash000 @RapidResponse47 @dlaw530 @POTUS 60 days is today. He can extend it himself by 30 days. But he has to report to congress why it is needed. He just ignores ut because his advisors ignore it. Who has standing to sue?

@Zenzeni_sangwen @atrupar @grok Campbell v Clinton, 203 F.3d 19 (DC Cir 2000) provides good overview on trying to enforce “violations” of the WPA. It’s a political question that courts can’t enforce. Impeachment, exercise power of the purse, or people can express opinion in next election are the only remedies.

Hi @grok What legal basis does Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth rely on when claiming that the current ceasefire with Iran pauses or stops the 60-day clock under the War Powers Resolution, and how does this interpretation differ from Senator Tim Kaine’s view that the statute does not support such a pause? If the ceasefire is considered to pause the statutory timeline, what specific conditions or benchmarks would need to be met for the administration to argue that the clock has truly stopped, and what happens if the ceasefire collapses or hostilities resume? How might this disagreement between Hegseth and Kaine over the War Powers Resolution’s 60-day limit affect congressional oversight of U.S. military operations against Iran, potential future escalation, and the broader balance of war-making authority between the executive and legislative branches?

@coachbrucepearl Please don't fall for the self-righteous rhetoric. In enforcing a legal blockade, one can intercept boats in international waters. There's no ambiguity on the point--it was a clearly legal interdiction.

@KellieMeyerNews See Campbell v Clinton, 203 F.3d 19 (DC Cir 2000) as to why the WPA is unenforceable in Court. Judge can’t compel a President to withdraw troops. Purely a political question. Impeach, exercise power of purse, or people can express views in next election.

The President was up against the clock with his war in Iran as under law he has to ask lawmakers to continue military action after 60 days. The deadline to receive authorization or withdraw forces is tomorrow. Secretary Hegseth on the Hill today said he believes the ceasefire in the war pauses the clock. That is exactly what a senior administration official is telling me tonight.
Kellie Meyer@KellieMeyerNews

A senior administration official tells me @NewsNation For War Powers Resolution purposes, the hostilities that began on Saturday, February 28 have terminated. Both parties agreed to a 2-week ceasefire on Tuesday, April 7 that has since been extended. There has been no exchange of fire between U.S. Armed Forces and Iran since Tuesday, April 7.

Last night, Israeli forces intercepted and boarded a humanitarian aid flotilla bound for Gaza in international waters off the coast of Greece — unlawfully detaining more than 175 people, including several New Yorkers. My team has been in direct contact with State and Federal partners as we work to confirm the whereabouts and conditions of these New Yorkers. This is a brazen violation of international law. Those detained must be released.

@TonerousHyus Campbell v Clinton, 203 F.3d 19 (DC Cir. 2000) provides great summary of limitations with WPA in the 1st place. No justiciable political question. No court could even enforce “violation” of it and compel President to withdraw troops.

I told every single person this is how it works and that the ceasefire as it is now is not part of the same resolution/notice But no everyone assured me they had an inside straight on how you “can’t do this”

If Gavin Newsom had not done his gerrymander: Indiana RINOs would be safe, FL doesn’t redraw, VA doesn’t either, Rs wouldn’t be moving on dream states like Tennessee to redraw, Alabama wouldn’t be rushing to redraw for 2026 2028 wouldn’t see 8+ more redraws either.
