As the Trump administration beats the regime change drum in the Caribbean, corporate interests and Cuba hardliners are lining up at the Supreme Court to intensify economic pressure on Cuba. My latest in @jacobin 👇 jacobin.com/2026/01/cuba-l…

TODAY: The Senate takes up its most significant Cuba vote in years. Sen. Kaine’s resolution would block new military action against Cuba without congressional authorization and asserts that the current U.S. oil blockade is already an act of war.

President Trump on Iran: "If I had my choice, what would I like to do, take the oil. Because it's there for the taking. There's not a thing they can do about it. Unfortunately, the American people would like to see us to come home. If it were up to me, I'd take the oil. I'd keep the oil. I would make plenty of money."

The Russian tanker Anatoly Kolodkin has arrived in Cuba carrying a full load of crude oil, providing a critical energy supply to the island amid a U.S. oil blockade. This video by a local TV Yumurí journalist shows the vessel docking at the port of Matanzas this morning.

Seems that media coverage of the Cuba oil blockade may have pushed Rubio to distance himself from openly embracing the intended outcomes of his own policies. The U.S. public clearly understands that the embargo & new blockade have played a primary role in Cuba's energy crisis.
Department of State@StateDept

SECRETARY RUBIO: The blackouts in Cuba have nothing to do with us. They’re having blackouts because they have equipment from the 1950s in their grid that has never been maintained or upgraded because their leaders are incompetent.

In a perfect world, there would be a bilateral commission to determine claim amounts for damages incurred by both parties. We are far, far beyond that point, though.

Unfortunately, this is probably just white noise at this point. The United States has long been clear that it will not accept a lump sum for expropriated properties; neither Trump nor Rubio will want to settle for less than what the FCSC has determined plus interest.

Trump continues to collectively punish civilian populations by weaponizing energy. And I’m sure we will see the same victim blaming if Trump delivers on this promise as we have with Cuba.

This is the consolidation and hardening of the multi-pronged US attempt to reclaim Colombia in the upcoming presidential elections. First, after the Venezuela attack, Trump's threats of military intervention. Then, the use of the US's Ecuadorian proxy to destabilise Colombia's economy and fabricate a border crisis and violate its territorial sovereignty. Now, Lawfare against the president to create a false narrative, especially egregious given how Trump has given the real narcos a free ride (think Juan Orlando Hernández). None of this comes as a surprise. Colombia was for years the US deep state's most committed vassal in the Western Hemisphere. Under Petro, Colombia has taken the first steps to try and emancipate itself from this historical subjugation. Which is why the Miami neocons who are running the show in the Trump administration's Monroeist approach to Latin America are scaling up their direct interference in the Colombian elections. nytimes.com/2026/03/20/nyr…

While the Trump administration threatens another Latin American leader on shaky drug charges, remember that Marco Rubio has a convicted narcotrafficking brother-in-law who helped his campaign and whose family received $130k from Rubio-linked PACs. apnews.com/article/eeuu-c…

Another overt attempt to interfere in Latin American elections. Trump promised to pardon Juan Orlando Hernández, convicted of trafficking 400 tons of cocaine into the U.S., if his allies won in Honduras. Now, with Petro’s successor leading in 🇨🇴, Trump’s DOJ floats narco charges

A sitting IACHR commissioner urging Trump to act on #Cuba—at a time when he himself has spoken of “taking Cuba”—amounts to endorsing US-driven regime change. This is not just troubling; it is incompatible with the Commission’s own rules, which prohibit conduct that may affect independence or impartiality. It directly undermines the institution’s credibility and, at a minimum, warrants serious scrutiny. @CIDH

If it’s really “90%” internal failures then why maintain so much external pressure? You can’t spend 7 decades restricting a country’s access to trade, finance, and markets and act like the embargo has had no effect. Pick one @scrowder. Either the embargo matters or it doesn’t
Steven Crowder@scrowder

90% of Cuba's economic problems are due to communist policies, not the embargo. Cuba has been a hellhole for over 60 years. The US embargo didn't do that. Your regime did.
