A great people without a soul is but a vast crowd. (Lamartine) / The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it. (Mencken)

It’s a bit mad isn’t it? These people speculate DJT’s literally the reincarnation of one great historical figure or another, or a time traveller. Many elaborate theories abound (even the CCP banned the topic & related imagery after it went viral, out of concern it would garner Trump too much respect). I was surprised when I first heard about this, but I probably should have known better – no story’s too strange these days! Soon as I’m back online, I’ll see if I can dig up an article about it for you. I was also surprised to learn Elvis was blonde. Did you know that already? I could tell his hair was darkened, but I never guessed he had anything but brown hair…. 👀

@bc33130 @OldRoberts953 You're very welcome. With Korean TV I've become one of those awful people who bang on endlessly about stuff they like and bore everyone else rigid. Have a good week🙂

@DraxTemerity @OldRoberts953 That’s much appreciated, thank you so much. I will poke around NF and see which ones catch my fancy, and I’ll take you up on that offer if I don’t manage to hit pay-dirt! I’m guilty of not exploring NF’s catalogue enough. Great to know about Rakuten Viki as well. Cheers again!

@bc33130 @OldRoberts953 Netflix has got lots of S. Korean stuff. If you want recommendations let me know, give me some time and I'll list some of my faves. They're all subbed and dubbed. Another outlet is a SE Asian streamer called Rakuten Viki that's got Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Thai etc.

@OldRoberts953 If you want some cheering up, watch some S.Korean TV every so often. The dramas are gripping and twisty, and the rom-coms are fun. High production values, clever plots and writing, great acting (lots of recurring character actors) Like our TV used to be.

@bc33130 @DominicCardy It is far easier to fool someone, Than to show them they have been fooled. For them to face reality, means admitting their whole worldview is incorrect. They are too terrified and cowardly for that.

@Br0mslee @DominicCardy Exactly. A problem needs to be honestly acknowledged before it can be addressed (unless you get very, very lucky once in a while). Same thing here, same preference for illusion over reality on the left: It feels like they’re trying to gaslight the rest of us.

@bc33130 @DominicCardy Some people prefer comforting illusions over facing harsh reality, Nietzsche wrote a lot about this.

There have been a LOT of fireball meteor sightings lately. There's supposed to be a new meteor shower, but I've never seen anything like this. I compiled videos from every event I could find and put them all in ONE thread. I count 8 separate sightings. 🧵👇🏻

@jacobreynolds Perhaps it’s convenient for many to focus on the style rather than the substance? Somehow I doubt there’d be such a misplaced emphasis were the subject matter more congenial to the left.

Is there a single substantive critique of Matthew Goodwin's book? All the reviews, from both left and right, are obsessed with the writing style and ChatGPT controversy. It seems as if the whole discourse is a giant virtue-signalling exercise.

@jacobreynolds Under Gove, The Spectator has lost its way. He’s always been more of a Lib Dem than a conservative. Disappointing as an MP; disappointing as an editor.

@EdgarHolroyd Absolutely spot on. Strangely I had the same thought earlier today. These two cards (trump cards, as they see them) are being weaponised in an analogous manner. It is corrosive to political discourse.

In the United States, it's called "the race card". Black people object to being arrested, and black politicians brush off their incompetence by citing racial attitudes. Here we have the very British version of the "Islam card", Labour has even now introduced legislation to make such claims even more potent.
Liza Rosen@LizaRosen0000

t.co/SWAYW6ANBl London’s Muslim mayor, Sadiq Khan, insists that all criticism against him is nothing more than “Islamophobia” and “Pakistanophobia.” As you can see in the video, he explicitly claims: “People attack me because I am Muslim and Pakistani.” No, Sadiq—people criticize you because of your disastrous leadership, skyrocketing crime rates, and your repeated defense of extremists. What’s your response to his pathetic victim card?

Starting to notice there is no mention of numbers in these reports. This allows the media to make this seem as threatening as possible instead of acknowledging the severe degradation in capability. The message here is that the military effort is a failed endeavor. This creates pressure to prematurely end, which would be beyond insanity. Since we have aall ready embarked on this effort allowing the regime to continue as the world’s largest state sponsor of terror would be irresponsible in the extreme. finance.yahoo.com/sectors/energy…

The US is banning foreign made consumer routers over security concerns. This is clearly directed at China, as the CCP uses every technology it controls to spy on people. Smart move. pcmag.com/news/fcc-just-…
