Ghana really is pulling a fast one aren’t they? First they got paid for all the slaves they sold (until Britain stopped them) and now they want to get paid compensation for the existence of slavery by the people who stopped them doing it. Anybody in Parliament who even hints at “reparations” is in my mind a straight up traitor. I, a taxpayer, don’t owe foreign scammers a penny.

What an absolute clown you are. Brent is the UK specific benchmark oil price. UK Natural Gas Futures is the UK specific benchmark gas price. These are different to other oil and gas benchmarks around the world. There is NOT one global price. Furthermore our gas price is very specific to us as we cannot export our gas via LNG as we don’t have an LNG plant to do this. We only can export via pipeline to the Netherlands, Belgium and Ireland and N.Ireland.

.@KemiBadenoch displays her total lack of understanding of the energy sector. She argues for more drilling in the North Sea to protect us from this energy crisis - seemingly oblivious to two very important facts. The first is we don't set the price of our north sea oil and gas - we let global markets do that. So in a crisis where global prices sky rocket, how can the answer can be to produce more globally priced oil here - it’s (energy market) illiterate to say so. The answer is to take control of our own energy pricing, starting with our own North Sea, as we have already with retail energy bills. Impose a price and profit cap. If we do this as part of an entire sector move - capping all wholesale prices, then we can combat this crisis and those that are coming next. The second very important fact Kemi seems unaware of is that it will take up to five years to produce anything new from our North Sea. So even if that could help us, it can’t help us with anything soon. And it won’t help us for long because our North Sea is all but empty, there’s 10% left. Our North Sea has been in decline for 30 years, shedding jobs and production capacity - because it’s running out - this has been going on for far longer than green energy has been a thing - to blame green energy for the decline of the North Sea is ignorant (of the facts). And Global markets have been filling the gap between what we make and what we use for decades now - Kemi seems not to know this either. As for energy bills, Badenoch seems unaware that the ‘green taxes’ we have on our energy bills were added by previous Tory governments. She seems also unaware that we spend vast sums subsiding fossils fuels - £17 billion a year at the last count. She operates in a fantasy environment, or would have us do - where green taxes have ruined the country and our oil and gas industry and all we need to do is drill more - it’s delusional. It’s straight out of the mouth of Trump.

Absolute clown 🤡 no idea how energy works or the markets! Nor how electricity generation works or basic physical and chemistry. We need a mix of coal power plants 1/3, gas 1/3 and nuclear 1/3. Be cheapest to be all in on coal and gas as 1 we have plenty of gas, 2 coal is cheap to import and if necessary we could dig our own coal up. Nuclear uses least land space and highest capacity factor and lifetime and low material input.

🔴 Stella Creasy nails it 👏 You can’t say our energy system has left us vulnerable… and then oppose the only things that actually make us independent. Oil and gas tie us to global markets. Renewables break that link. It really is that simple.

1. The price cap is not a response to the war in Iran. It existed anyway (based on incorrect analysis by the CMA) 2. If you cared about the cost of living you would... (i) lift the drilling ban and cancel the EPL. And create incentives for opening new fields ASAP (ii) call for gas companies and suppliers to import on long term fixed price contracts rather than doing everything on a just in time basis (iii) cancel the RO, AR7 and future renewables auctions until prices are under control (iv) abolish carbon taxes... They serve no purpose and just make energy expensive and industry uncompetitive (v) cut the fuel duty... Half the pump price of petrol is tax. It's greedy profiteering by the government But you won't because you actually care more about your net zero ideology than the cost of living or anything else

Japan spent $6.3 trillion on stimulus between 1992-2009 and bought themselves three decades of economic stagnation. Obama's $831 billion American Recovery Act promised unemployment wouldn't exceed 8% (it hit 10% anyway). The EU threw €750 billion at COVID recovery and got energy crises plus inflation.

The CCC recently dropped a supplementary analysis of their 7th Carbon Budget, doubling down on past errors. They claim Net Zero costs less than the 2022 fossil fuel price spike & delivers a "net benefit" to society. Let's dismantle the ivory tower claptrap. A thread (1/13)

Everyone cries ‘tax the rich more’  A £150k earner pays £53,460 in tax  A £25k earner pays just £2,486 in tax It takes 21 £25k earners to contribute was one £150k earner does in tax  The  top 1% pay 28.5% of all income tax The bottom 50% only pay 9% of all income tax The problem is not the rich The problem is how much tax is wasted

Restore Britain will offer the British people a referendum on the death penalty. It is a matter of conscience. But I have made no secret of the fact that I would welcome its reintroduction. There are people in our prisons and walking our streets who are guilty of the worst imaginable crimes, up to and including the trafficking, torture, rape, and murder of children. They don’t deserve to live, and the world would be better off without them. Simple as that.

Some of you still seem to think oil is only used for gasoline for light duty vehicles, because that’s the only time you’ve physically encountered it. Expensive and scarce oil is an omnicrisis for the global economy. It cannot be replaced by electrons from solar panels.

If Britain grew at the same rate in the two decades after 1997 that it grew in the two decades before 1997, UK GDP would be more than 30 percent higher today. Three decades of Blairite government has been a disaster for Britain.

Rubbish. Every day my feed is full of your nonsense Renewables are MORE EXPENSIVE than gas for electricity generation And electricity is only 20% of UK energy consumption The best ways to cut energy costs are 1. Abolish the carbon taxes 2. Cancel AR7 onwards 3. Cancel the RO 4. Restructure AR1-6 to lower costs 5. Rebuild N Sea production 6. Build more refineries 7. Build large nuclear as fast as possible using Korean tech and Korean regulation as a guide 8. Cut fuel duty 9. Cancel any grid upgrades and close any windfarms with negative NPV for consumers 10. Sign LT Fixed Price gas contracts with Norway, the US and Qatar (diversify supply)
