It's a banal fact that many, many good movies have been adapted from weak novels and few good movies have been adapted from good novels.

Trying to think of books where the film adaptation is considered vastly superior in quality. An odd one would probably be The Bridges of Madison County which consistently is picked as one of Clint's best directed films but the novel is usually considered mediocre at best

rewatching Doctor Sleep and it's essentially the perfect case study in simply recasting actors for iconic roles and not using creepy, uncanny de-aging technology
