Incontrovertible evidence of how Twisha Sharma was abused and maligned by her husband and his mother emerges on tape. Imagine a mother in law who asks her daughter in law about her sexual history, former partners, accusing her of promiscuity- and comparing her to a prostitute, while, her son, calls his wife a R##ndi . Who made this lady a judge ? I was truly chilled to the bone when I heard this audiotape - where Twisha Sharma’s brother, a serving major in the army confronts his sister's mother in law and takes her on for the constant harassment of Twisha. On April 22nd days before she was tragically found dead in the judge’s home, the family secretly recorded what may now stand as one of the most chilling windows into the cruelty Twisha endured inside her marital home. In the audio, accessed exclusively by Mojo Story, Former Judge, Giribala Singh can be heard brazenly defending her son against the complaint that he called cTwisha a “r*ndi” . She can be heard aggressively saying that it’s her right to know whether her daughter in law has had multiple partners in the past. And then- that oldest trope in the world- she questions her morality, accuses her of promiscuity and invokes parallels with prostitutes ( used in this context as an abuse by her) , language so vile, so dehumanising, it is hard to listen to without outrage. I was so horrified by the 'press confereence' of Giribala Singh, former Judge & mother in law of Twisha Shama- now an accused in a dowry death case, that i had to interview her and confront her with some direct questions 1. Where is her son? as an officer of the law- and her son is a lawyer - why is he absconding and will she urge him to surrender or is she hiding him? 2. Did she and her son taunt Twisha about carrying another man's baby? 3. How can she place in public domain the alleged assessment by Twisha's doctors of her mental health when that is strictly confidential between a doctor and patient? 4. Who is she to call Twisha's decision on abortion an act of cruelty - abortion is legal in India and its ultimately a woman's body and her choice within the framework of law 5. How can she conflate prescription medicines with drugs ? Where is her evidence on drug usage ? and how does she respond to the charge by Twisha's family that her husband was the drug addict 6. How can she as a woman and a judge indulge in the worst sort of character assassination of a young woman who is not even alive to defend herself against the smear 7. . Really appreciate Barkha Dutt for standing her ground and asking the tough, pertinent questions that needed to be asked. Journalism matters most when it refuses to be intimidated.

These are the kind of women I have a deep rooted hatred for. All i see is some toxic sense of entitlement, arrogance & pure wickedness. Huge respect for @BDUTT for confronting her the way she did. Thank you for delivering virtual slaps that so many women in this country wish they could give themselves bc if it were me, i wouldn’t have held back. I’d have cussed her out on national television!!
