but some of us married and tremulous scientists still toil alone in the almost every day! 🤓
MaKin@KiarKini

@kareem_carr The days of single heroic scientists toiling alone in the are long gone

#NeuroAI meeting: @tyrell_turing makes great point that we cannot treat math, statistics, and comp sci as optional in neuroscience training. For Neuro, all are just as essential as biology (Though in my experience biologists are better with stats than comp sci graduates are)

@langofmind What're the pragmatics behind a student's answer to the question, "Are you actually grateful or just being polite?"

I just asked my students why they say thank you after a lecture and apparently it's to express genuine gratitude and not just an empty discourse marker that indicates the termination of a social interaction. My entire worldview is in shambles

@langofmind We were surprised to notice the same very early generalization between real life and silhouette signs:

@langofmind Don't worry, it's both. Popular to whisper, but the swords come out at the first opportunity to signal fealty.

The CONE LAB @ Swarthmore College
April's been a busy month, and I (@bdzinszer) never remember to take event photos, but here's our update: Congrats to Anna Miller ('24, Neurosci & Global Studies) on a riveting Senior Showcase talk and to Colin DeLaney ('25) & Sumin Byun ('25) on great #fNIRS posters @SFN_Philly

@cgershenson well, that'll be another fine entry for my Research Methods class hall of shame.

A small set of our 8 co-authors (and ~15 more research support staff!) met to celebrate our "Outstanding Paper of 2023" award from @_LangLearning. In fact, ours was just one entry in a pretty outstanding December issue, so check it out! twitter.com/_LangLearning/…
Zhenghan Qi@qzhever

A special bonus of attending @MtgLanguageASD this year: @AnqiHu6 and I got to celebrate @bdzinszer’s award-winning paper as co-authors together with Katherine Trice, and @S_SanchezAlonso: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/page/1….

Good thing David Akinsooto's new lab (@caitlingstone🙏) is more diligent about the social media than his old lab is (@bdzinszer👀), or we might have missed sharing this poster from @MtgLanguageASD!! Congrats on a great #MoLA2024 poster talk David!

Back for day ✌🏼 of #MoLA2024! If you're around for the poster session, stop by to see @DukeAutismCtr's David Akinsooto present his poster from his work while at his alma mater!

@thuyvytnguyen I think my perfect version would reduce preamble! 😅 Subject: Prepare to die Hello, I have a warning: Prepare to die. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. I made the appt on your calendar. Please don't wear anything dry-clean-only. Sincerely, Inigo

Huge congrats to @shakhlonematova on publishing this work, an incredible feat of data collection. Subject counts in Fig. 1 and the payoff in Fig. 4. Prelim power analyses suggested ~250 children to test previously reported bilingual effects, and boy-oh-boy did Shakhlo deliver!

@thuyvytnguyen Having a history I can literally flip through during a quiet minute helps me regroup (and find old stuff that slipped off my radar). And it seems more socially acceptable in a meeting to be jotting down notes on paper than adding things to my calendar/reminders.

@thuyvytnguyen I use a legal pad as my primary to-do list (along w/ my digital calendar, email, & reminders). The dead-trees pad helps by being "always on." Digital lists simply vanish from my consciousness every time I minimize them. The pad sits on my desk within sight and easy reach.

@thuyvytnguyen @Chops310 Love this idea. I've heard the same feedback about small, affordable U.S. cities with conference centers (admittedly a narrower vision) where food & lodging are more affordable on grad student budget. "Nobody would come."

🎉 New paper in Dev Sci!🎈 Five years ago, @Kaja_Jasinska asked me if I wanted to run a short experiment while we collected baseline data from ~800 primary school students participating in a literacy project in rural Côte d'Ivoire. "Well, yeah, of course I do!... but which one?"
