@ESPNCleveland @JFowlerESPN @SportsCenter If Watson starts and is not good, Todd and Andrew both need to be fired during the season.
English

“I’m told he’s hit it off with Todd Monken, who’s got an offensive concept, some elements that Watson has run in the past and been his best at,” - @JFowlerESPN on Browns QB Deshaun Watson via @SportsCenter.
The Browns begin OTAs this week.

English

@zenofpuck @nhltraderumours Sounds exactly like the kind of thing the Leafs would go for.
English

@nhltraderumours Bringing in a $9M defender with dubious defensive stats is certainly an interesting choice for the Leafs if they want to make the rebuild that much harder.
English

Jim Matheson suggests the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs could swap Darnell Nurse and Morgan Rielly.
Oilers get: Rielly ($7.5M AAV)
Leafs get: Nurse ($9.25M AAV)
Nurse is from Hamilton and is close with Max Domi. Would he waive his NMC?👇

English

@johnny_rudeboy @nhltraderumours If the alternative is Nurse I say keep Rielly
English

@nhltraderumours I might be the only guy wanting to keep Rielly so a no from me.
I do want him to play a reduced role on the team, similar to Tavares. But more so be around as good professionals and leaders for the hopefully young group of d-man and forwards joining of we blow this MF up.
English

@chicktko3 @nhltraderumours Oh yes he does now. Tie is an advisor of sorts to Keith Pelley.
English

@nhltraderumours Given Domis struggles in TO, do you think he has pull.
English

@nhltraderumours Well since the Domis are now advisors to the management that sounds about right. 🙄

Craig Berube is likely to return as head coach of the Maple Leafs next season. The meeting that took place this past weekend between him and Leafs GM John Chayka was an audit of this team, player by player, and Berube’s view of where they should be moving forward. If they can schedule the meeting with Matthews, that could be very telling, but the expectation from management and from the head coach is that Auston Matthews will be back and in training camp.
“It sure seems like Craig Berube is likely going to return as head coach.”
“From a management standpoint, I’d want to know what the hesitation is beyond the obvious. We can all see the areas of need.
So I think Matthews is going to want some explanation as to what John Chayka and Mats Sundin see moving forward. I can’t imagine he withholds his services, right? But does he eventually, maybe not in this meeting, but sometime in the not too distant future, say, ‘Okay, yeah, I’m not in this for the long term. I’m going to honor my contract, but I’m telling you now I’m not in this for the long term’?”

@xTylerB_ @SamAMcKee Don’t mind seeing the Habs win. If it was the senators that would be a different story.
English

The #BlueJays' lineup would be completely lost without Kazuma Okamoto.
He's been the only legitimate power threat so far and is this team's biggest run producer. Sitting here on May 10th, he might be the most important player on this roster through 39 games.
English

@beacher70 @barstoolsports i think the worst might be san diego. no world series titles and they joined mlb in 1969. and no san diego chargers super bowls.. now they lost their NFL team and also have no NBA or NHL team to cheer for.
English

@LeafsNews Wouldn’t this be like a poor job gaslighting? Pelley: Neil isn’t his agent. Fact check - Neil IS his agent. Pelley - no he’s not.
English

"There have been countless erroneous reports, including that I was using AI during the deadline, and Neil is John's agent. Proposterous, all of it. Tie (Domi) wasn't involved in the process whatsoever."
Keith Pelley on the hiring of Chayka & Sundin 👇

English

@TheHockeyNews Oh it was deep alright. So deep that he hired the guy who is a client of the same firm that they hired to conduct the search. You can’t make this stuff up and we wonder why the leafs are the laughingstock of the league.
English

"We've conducted due diligence, and it was deep due diligence," Keith Pelley told Steve Simmons after the Toronto Sun columnist said 19 of 20 people around the league he spoke to did not support Chayka's hiring at Monday's press conference: thehockeynews.com/news/latest-ne…
English

@RiseFromTheAshZ So you’re saying the firm that Pelley hired to conduct the search did a fantastic job convincing him to hire the guy who just happens to be a client of said firm? A guy that has never been named in any other recent GM hiring? That’s not fishy at all!
English

After listening to the Keith Pelley press conference after Brad Treliving was fired and listening to the Sundin/Chayka one today, a couple of things are crystal clear:
🔹 Pelley wanted John Chayka BAD.
🔹 Pelley was NEVER looking for a candidate that was NOT an analytics-centric person.
🔹 Chayka used words like "integration" and "alignment" which were used repeatedly by Pelley when Treliving was let go.
🔹 If what Steve Simmons says about "19/20 people being against the hiring of John Chayka because of his character" then Keith Pelley CLEARLY is focused on the "end" and not the "means to the end." Given how giddy Pelley was talking about hiring Chayka, he wholeheartedly believes that whatever means Chayka will use will be what he currently perceives as the most effective ways to build a hockey organization.
🔹 The hiring of Mats Sundin serves a hockey purpose but also served a PR purpose.
🔹 Chayka knows Auston Matthews and his family from his time in Arizona. Good or bad thing?
🔹 Shane Doan is out. Probably means he was in disagreement with the Chayka hiring.

@Maritimer_ @davidalter Ageeed. Simmons may not be a nice guy but he asked the question on many people’s minds and you can see from the fumbling answer that Pelley has no clue.
English

@davidalter I feel Steve Simmons is speaking for more fans than most would like to admit. There is an uncomfortable mood that should feel the complete opposite. It feels like we just watched a media guy make a bad hockey hire and already expect what is to come next and that its not great
English

"I must have spoken to different people."
Keith Pelley defends the decision to hire John Chayka during the introductory news conference today.
How do you feel about the hiring today?
thehockeynews.com/nhl/toronto-ma…
English

@LeafsNationNow @davidalter Sources aside the fan base has had it with incompetence. I’m glad Simmons asked the question even if it was a bit harshly worded. What did they expect no one would remember why Chayka was suspended and his tenure with the coyotes was a disaster?
English

@davidalter Can’t think of a much worse response. Pelley was clearly unprepared to handle such a direct question. As if everyone were supposed to just be happy and move along with every decision he makes. It’s as if he’s completely unaware of the public perception on Chayka
English

@TheCynick @davidalter And don’t forget the firm that Pelley hired to conduct the search is the same firm that represents John Chayka. You honestly can’t make this shit up!
English

@davidalter Keith Pelley talked to Tie Domi and three interns who work for him. They all agreed with his position.
