The record temperature for May was broken by an entire 2C today, and tomorrow it is likely to be even warmer. The Met Office has been recording temperatures all around the UK for 173 years. This is not a blip it is a very serious problem.

@SGTWipper1Each 3 weeks, then I got off G30 for some R&R at Besbrook mill for 2 days, no shower at all. Then back for another 2.

What's the longest you've gone without a proper shower?

@fuzifelt My downstairs has quarry tiles, close the curtains on south side, open the windows on the north side. House is 21c, comfortable and cool compared to outside. It takes some heating in the Winter

It's 37°C IN THE SHADE on our patio this afternoon. If you are one of those utter idiots walking your dog you are clinically insane. And cruel. No dog has ever died NOT having a walk... @Ralph_Retriever is keeping cool on his ice mat which has been in the freezer for an hour.

The government has yet to issue public guidance on how to ready the whole of society for potential war, despite warning almost a year ago of the need to "actively prepare". Discussions on homeland defence and wider national resilience and readiness are understood to be taking place behind closed doors. But a network of local authorities and voluntary organisations that would play a key role in every part of the country should the UK ever come under armed attack appears to be largely in the dark about what they should be doing to better prepare. Sky News has spoken to a number of experts who say that local resilience forums - the regional bodies that are responsible for supporting communities in any kind of emergency, from floods to conflict - need to become a lot more familiar with wartime planning. Such a move though would require direction and coordination from the Cabinet Office and additional money from the Treasury. Local government budgets are already stretched and - depending upon the level of government ambition - rebuilding the country's civil preparedness for potential conflict would require a whole new area of expertise, training and responsibility. New parking scam at Newborough beach... ANPR clocks you at point of entry, approx 1.5 miles from car park. Payment machine is in car park. Long queues to pay. Difficult to get space. Pay for parking. ANPR clocks on way out again at exit. Parking charge insufficient to cover.

@UnimportantO I have had nothing but a positive experience of the NHS, broke legs, strange swellings. Colonoscopy maybe was a big smoke but seen very quick!

Mum put an online request for GP appointment, called in 20 minutes, seen in an hour. Sent to hospital, seen by a Consultant in hours, booked in for a scan same day. I know there are people who have had bad experiences and more who’ll pretend they have, but the NHS is brilliant.
