@TylerKepner @MattGelb Good update, can customize view as well. Font is still too big though, can only fit 3 scores on the screen, only 2 if expanded, so 7 (!) scrolls to see all the games if a full slate. And, the W-L records still disappear when games start; just put them to the left and leave them

Great news re: MLB App… the update mentioned in Sliders last week is now available in the App Store. (And will auto-update soon.) The default settings on scoreboard page again include probable pitchers and a box score link for live games. 👏👏

@iRotohead @MLB It sucks. The obscenely large font, having 2 steps to get to the box score (!), and the team records being there before the game, but *not* with a game in progress, is ridiculous. One positive, however, is they moved the audio feed link back to the scores page, which is great

Is there a way to get the old format for the @MLB app (at least give the option!)... New format font is so unnecessarily huge! Can no longer get a quick overview of pitching probables and now have to click on Gameday first to view the box scores. Just horrible.

We need more public outrage for what MLB did to the scoreboard page on its app update.

@HowieRose Seaver did well with 2R/7IP in Game 6, just outdueled by Catfish, but of course Matlack rocked in Game 7. WS MVP Reggie killed them that series

Not at all the point. Fully rested Seaver in game 7 was the better option. With Matlack to back him up. Game six was essentially house money.
Rob@answersattheend

@HowieRose It was the lack of Mets offense in game 6 and 7 in 73 that cost them the series, not Seaver and Matlack on short rest or not starting George Stone. Poor Yogi has taken a bad rap for over half a century.

@jphoornstra Nice post. Krug almost ended the perfecto as well, per the Chicago Tribune: “The only threat to Koufax’s perfect game was Chris Krug’s hard ground ball to Wills in the 6th. Wills’ throw to first base was in the dirt, but Wes Parker made a scoop pick up to retire the Cub catcher.”

Chris Krug isn't a household name, but he played a key role in Sandy Koufax's perfect game and literally built the Field of Dreams. He died on Jan. 16, which had not been reported outside his family's social media pages. thebiglead.com/former-cubs-ca…

@flagstafffilms @Cubs @Mets It is in fact 1968 (5/4/68 as noted); can always tell the year at Shea in the 60's by the scoreboard ads, especially Rheingold's: 1968 ad was "Enjoy the 10 minute head" (at 1:09). '67 was "Either you have it or you don't" and '69 "The 10 minute head. Haven't you timed it yet?"

FUN THREAD: I work at an assisted-living facility. About a month ago, I was talking with a 90-year-old resident about baseball, and he was telling me about the first game he ever went to. He couldn't remember the date, but he remembered enough details that I was able to find it.

On the blog! Pastime Portraiture: Johnny Rizzo In 1938, Rizzo had one of the best rookie seasons in Pittsburgh Pirates history (23/111/.301, 6th in NL MVP voting), and had a 9 RBI game, still a Bucs’ record, but would never again reach those heights. behindthebag.net/2026/01/01/pas…

If you think that was casual, check out the end of the 1965 World Series when Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers beat the Minnesota Twins. You can find it on YouTube.

@BarstoolHubbs The entire thing was the most casual celebration I’ve ever seen — hell of a souvenir though
