@bscholl Probably the result of being led by randomly AB testing 1000s of tiny changes than any real product/design leadership. Can’t imagine the number of 10x better designs that have been thrown in the bin due to unfavourable short term AB test results.

Has anyone noticed that Amazon's homepage title looks like it was last updated in 2004? It *was* last updated in 2004. I wrote it then when I was 24 years old and running the SEM/SEO teams, and apparently no one has updated it since then.

@mims @TaylorLorenz @JoannaStern Optimising a product for ad clicks will always destroy the customer experience. The only long term alternatives are ones who can afford to optimise for more thoughtful metrics that are aligned to their mission, not ads.

@johncutlefish My advice: just be curious about development work and ask questions. In my experience engineers love explaining the complexities of their work to PMs who are genuinely interested.
