@NiallRCurry @ucrelcrs a missed opportunity @NiallRCurry to use a reader engagement questions in the title - 'do questions engage readers? does this depend on the language you're using?'

one reason i’m so fucked off about the colonised curriculum in english high schools is that for so many years i really thought i didn’t like history or geography ... and then i wrote a paper on the impact of colonial historíes on linguistic geography??? 15 y/o me would be floored

@Chimphands I think that's the fee for the whole event (2 plenaries plus 3 workshops, plus access to the sponsors - mainly publishers) - it's phrased a bit oddly on the site, but it's just saying you need to choose a 'track' or level for your workshops. £12 per CPD session!

does anyone else get the deal with academic.edu ? How come a pdf of a book can be posted there clearly without the author's consent or knowledge? Here's an example academia.edu/37654296/PRINC… Do authors not mind? Or is it unstoppable?

what i need from all of my elt colleagues is: 1. recognition that the “native speaker” is an inherently racist + classist construct 2. acknowledgment that an expert language user ≠ an expert language teacher 3. engagement w/ the extensive research already done in this area
