I'm thrilled and honored to share that, starting in August, I'll be a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University's @StanfordCDDRL! I'll be focusing primarily on foreign pressure and opposition to democratic backsliding. I'm grateful to my committee and others for their support.

New article out with Tanner Bivens. Using new data on ethnicity in global uprisings, we confirm that ethnic minorities face longer odds of success. BUT, we find that even for minorities, nonviolent tactics have historically been more effective: doi.org/10.1093/jopres…

Was great being back at @uchidemocracy earlier this week as part of a Workshop on the International Dimensions of Democratic Backsliding. I had the pleasure of presenting my work on foreign pressure and support for opposition actors using a survey experiment I fielded in Hungary.

We've seen this occur a lot lately, for instance, vis-a-vis protests in Iran. Here's a recent statement by Minority Leader Jeffries in the US House supporting those protests. My work shows that the *content* of the rhetoric matters a lot, as does commitment to democracy.

Oppositions often seek out international support. My dissertation offers some insights on how such foreign pressure shapes attitudes toward opposition actors. I'll be presenting my work on this today at UChicago's Backsliding workshop! abcnews.go.com/International/…
