@DanWolken Bro, let Mitch go out the way he wants! UK athletics are where they are today because of Mitch! We should be naming facilities after him.

1. How many people who work outside of athletics at University of Kentucky make $950k? 2. Why is Mitch Barnhart one of them and what’s he going to do for that salary? These seem like very reasonable questions.
Jack Pilgrim@JackPilgrimKSR

Mitch Barnhart on his new $950K gig: "The notion that this golden parachute is falling from the ceiling and I'm going to sit in a rocking chair and eat hay is ridiculous garbage. And that notion that started by some -- two or three knuckleheads -- needs to end."

@signulll It’s a soft bubble. Companies offering “specialized” LLM capabilities will fail. Why use them when I can use their engines directly? The big boys will be fine. Companies that utilize AI and don’t feel the need to tell us, will dominate.

my super bowl recap: - that game sucked ass. one of the most boring super bowls i’ve ever watched. zero iconic plays. & virtually zero electricity. i think of tom brady was still out there, the patriots would’ve had a better shot. - weird that anthropic changed the tagline after running the ad. they should’ve stuck to their guns. - openai’s codex ad was interesting & overall good. the pov almost felt like it could’ve been a hint at a glasses type device… but i’m probably over reading it. - the gemini ad was solid, but it was also a little too “parisian love”adjacent. & that original can’t be topped. google probably should’ve tried a different concept, but i guess this was okay. (esp given google marketing is usually pretty mid) - salesforce ad was wtf territory. badly executed. same vibe with the ai dot com stuff. i have no idea what was going on there. - openai getting trolled by a random marketing firm creating a real looking ad for a device was insane to see because the ad looked credible. & it was likely ai generated which means ai video gen is now so good everyone fell for it. but overall what a total tech victory lap over culture. ai is now fully embedded in the broader zietgiest through & through, & it’s only been ~3 years since chatgpt launched. the economy is tech, & tech is the economy. if ai is a bubble, the entire economy is screwed, luckily it is far from one.

It’s 9:00 pm on Christmas Eve. Not a single Kalshi engineer has left the office. There’s levels to this.

@salmanso_ This is such a lame flex. The product is built. At this point, the goal is market dominance. Despite what engineers would like everyone to think, that’s not something that “grinding” through all hours of Christmas Eve accomplishes.

@wil_da_beast630 Love this. Khan above Jesus is probably not true. Gun to your head, you’d probably admit this, but the list would be much less interesting. No Abe Lincoln here, or in the comments, is crazy work.

@BillyBelterra Hit a pick 5 for about 15k on a $12 ticket a few years ago. I’m a regular person and had to have my accountant brother go through my ADW records to pull out all the sessions

@bendreyfuss Good! Catholics (I’m one) have an entire holy day of obligation for the feast of the immaculate conception, and they don’t even know what it is!

Tonight I taught a Catholic something about Catholicism and it was a big win for not only me but all Jews: “I recently learned that the ‘immaculate conception’ is not about Jesus. It’s about Mary.” “Wrong” “Wow. You’re going to feel bad when you Google this”

There is a carryover in the $1 pick 5 tonight @HollywoodPenn, & I'm going to hit it. Well, I'm going to bet it, anyway, & that's an important step toward hitting it. Speaking of important steps, the 1st is important, but don't sleep on step 9. George Costanza wouldn't be happy.
