@TylerWitwitty @nonamechef419 @MattWalshBlog Honestly, the only reason I responded in the first place is I think it’s unfair to say Matt is trying to justify his parenting. It doesn’t take a study to know excessive screen time isn’t good for anyone particularly kids. Reading/spending time with ur kids is important.

@nonamechef419 @TylerWitwitty @MattWalshBlog It appears you are correct that “inherently bad” is not the correct description. That would in fact mean that there are no benefits at all. I was wrong to call it that. Apparently the correct term wouldbe “net context dependent” as it is neither the “devil or angel”. My apologies

I appreciate the honest response. That said, doesn’t your statement prove the point that tablets aren’t inherently bad and instead the benefits or disadvantages of tablet use is determined on a case by case basis dependent on how the parent structures availability and/or type of use for the tablet with their child?

@NielsHoven @AcheJ6 The good news is using dishwashers, washing machines, and cars gives you more time to read to your kid.

@NielsHoven @ChrisFrerich No, feasible evaluates viability while convenience evaluates user experience they are two different words with two different meanings. I’m talking about feasible and do not think convenience should play a role at all in raising a child.

@ChrisFrerich @NielsHoven To be clear, yes, as parents you should teach your children to hand write thank you letters and birthday cards to loved ones and deliver them wherever feasible. How is this even a discussion?

@ChrisFrerich @NielsHoven I would strongly urge people to do this in personal matters, specifically the writing part. Obviously for long distance the post office is necessary for delivery. This works much better in personal then professional settings but your child is as personal as it gets.

@NielsHoven There is a very good argument to be made that there is nothing in this world better than reading a book to a child and if that doesn’t make sense to you then I can only say I wish you the best of luck.

@NielsHoven It is ideal to learn to read while sitting on your parent’s lap with a book. Why as a parent would you not go to any lengths to do what is ideal for your child’s development?

@TylerWitwitty @MattWalshBlog The actual point here is that you’re lying to yourself IF you believe handing a child a tablet is more beneficial to them than sitting on your lap while you read them a book. So it’s not about Matt having to justify what’s ideal, it’s about you justifying what is less than ideal.

@nonamechef419 @TylerWitwitty @MattWalshBlog Healthier lifestyle? Not so much. As for your autistic child, I wouldn’t pretend to understand the challenges that you and your child. That is a completely different discussion though with a completely different cost benefit analysis. I wish you the best.

@bgallow2000 @TylerWitwitty @MattWalshBlog My 5 yr old autistic child would beg to differ. But his ability to communicate doesn’t matter because some clown ironically tries to demand a “healthier” lifestyle while his profile picture is two draft beers. Get fucked.

What a stupid response. It's not zero sum game. You can use both and both can be effective for different purposes. Person: "Some people use cordless drills for construction." Matt: "Have you heard of corded drills?" Every time Matt makes a comment about technology, it's amazing how incredibly uninformed and wrong he is.

@MattWalshBlog Does it matter what they use to read as long as they're reading? Being a bitch about this is like people bitching about cars when horse and buggies were the thing. You can control what they do. If the kids playing games on it all day that's obviously not great

@MattWalshBlog Fun fact Matt — every child in my daughter’s school is given a Chromebook on which to do their work, starting in Kindergarten. This isn’t as bad as you’re making it seem. Learning is learning.

@MattWalshBlog What Matt is doing is the same as feminist with the gender pay gap. A tablet is not inherently bad for children. It is multi varied and relies solely on the content the tablet allows a child to consume. What Matt is doing is trying to justify how he raises his kids.
