I don't think many Labour colleagues will appreciate coming back from a day canvassing for Thursday's elections to see energy being wasted on leadership speculation and talk about deliberately causing byelections, most of which comes across as rather entitled and about self-interest rather than the stability and success of the party.

The conduct of a tiny minority in the House of Lords who have used every tactic imaginable to make sure the Assisted Dying Bill fails has been awful. I have long believed the Lords is simply not fit for purpose as a second chamber. This has cemented my view hard, and I imagine will make others realise just how ludicrous our legislative systems are. Sad day.

I often talk to the homeless, & I ask them ‘why don’t you get a job’
They all answer in exactly the same way:
‘There’s no point, I get more money if I claim benefits’
‘I get given a house, & I earn £150 or even £200 a day begging’
This is no joke. And this is why the streets of London & the U.K are in ruin
And why the economy is broken
Instead, why don’t we bring back great apprentice schemes, cut the benefits, & start skilling up these people on the streets to do useful work to help their sense of worth, help them earn more money AND help the economy grow
