Good News. It’s a start, the price gouging and monopolizing by the corporations who have bought up vet practices has been horrific.

Why do I have to pay over £5,000 to have my bins emptied Just because my house is bigger? Or in a different area? It’s the same ‘service’ whether your house is worth £200K or £2 million Up to £5,835 a year to get your bins emptied Oh, and if I ALREADY pay a national tax, why am I paying a local tax on top? Council tax is actually a wealth tax

As @grok can't be arsed to answer at the moment, here's a breakdown. Council Tax is a local tax on domestic properties in England, Scotland, and Wales (Northern Ireland uses domestic rates instead). It is collected by local authorities and helps fund a wide range of local public services that benefit the community. Your Council Tax bill is not ring-fenced for specific items — the money goes into the council's general budget alongside government grants, business rates, and other income. However, it primarily supports everyday local services. Main Services Funded by Council Tax Here are the most common areas it pays for (the exact split varies by council, year, and location): Waste and recycling — Rubbish collection, bin emptying, recycling centres, and waste disposal. Roads and transport — Maintaining roads, pavements, street lighting, road cleaning, and some local transport services. Social care — Adult social care (e.g., support for elderly or disabled people, care homes, "Meals on Wheels") and children's services (e.g., safeguarding, looked-after children, family support). This is often one of the biggest costs for councils. Police and fire services — A portion of your bill usually goes directly to the local police and crime commissioner and fire authority. Libraries, leisure, and culture — Public libraries, parks, sports centres, youth clubs, and recreation facilities. Planning and environment — Planning applications, building control, environmental health, trading standards, noise control, and fly-tipping enforcement. Education support — Some aspects of education (though most school funding comes from central government), plus things like school admissions or adult learning. Community and housing services — Housing support, homelessness prevention, elections, births/deaths/marriages registration, and community safety. Other local services — Street cleaning, parks maintenance, economic development, tourism, and regeneration in some areas. In many councils, a large share (often 70%+) goes to the upper-tier authority (e.g., county council or unitary authority) for big-ticket items like social care and education-related services, while the district/borough/city council gets a smaller portion for more local services like waste and planning.

@robprogressive Hey @grok could you explain to Rob what his council tax pays for, he seems to be under the illusion it only pays for his bins to be emptied

There is no doubt that @BBCNews has legitimised antisemitism and helped to produce an atmosphere in which Jewish ambulances are burnt to the ground. The BBC is no longer a public service broadcaster worthy of the licence fee. @antisemitism

Ted and I had mutual friends at uni. He didn’t know at the time that I knew he was standing up for me in group chats where students were calling me far right for my gender critical views. See him calling out the ridiculously unfair entry requirements for British students versus international students at the Uni of Leeds on the People’s Channel. Top bloke @NewsonTed

Fine words @SadiqKhan, but this is what happens when anti-Semitic chants are allowed on London's streets every week and when the Met Police don't even bother charging men filmed shouting about raping Jewish wives and daughters in broad daylight. What did you do about that? NOTHING.
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan

This is a cowardly attack on the Jewish community. I am in close contact with the police who are stepping up patrols in the area, and I urge anyone with information to come forward. Londoners will never be cowed by this kind of hatred and intimidation.

Today, I attended a pro–Islamic Republic gathering outside the Prime Minister’s office in my capacity as a journalist. During the event, I was attacked from behind by one of the regime’s supporters, resulting in a serious injury to my left rib. The individual who assaulted me managed to pass through the police cordon before carrying out the attack. Another individual, identified as Mohammadreza Zohrevand, also threatened to kill me and my family. Fortunately, both the attacker and the individual who issued the death threats were arrested by the police. Many of these individuals are present in the United Kingdom under the status of asylum seekers, yet they openly support the Islamic Republic. Their presence poses a serious threat to the safety and security of all citizens in this country. I have repeatedly put my life at risk to demonstrate this reality. I sincerely hope that concrete and decisive action will now be taken.

My friend tried to withdraw £20k from his high street bank & their response was shocking For 30 years he’s has been a loyal customer of this major bank He called to withdraw the money & they said no, you have to come into the branch He went into the branch & asked asked to withdraw the £20k and they asked 'what it’s for'? He said ’none of your business, it’s my money’ They said ‘unless you can tell us exactly what the money is for, you cannot withdraw it' This should shock & terrify you, because your own money isn’t even yours anymore

The Shadow Justice Secretary has been reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, branded an “Islamophobe”, and even faced calls to resign from the Prime Minister. We warned that an official definition of Islamophobia would have a chilling effect on free speech. It is already being weaponised by Labour MPs who want to silence legitimate criticism of Islam and its practices. A de facto Muslim blasphemy law is taking hold. That's a serious accusation to make, @SteveReedMP. To which racial group do you believe I was racist? If you can't answer, we'll be free to conclude you're a liar. x.com/ArchRose90/sta…

Car crash interview for Housing Secretary Steve Reed. He branded Nick Timothy’s comments as “racist”. When his lazy accusation was challenged by @CamillaTominey, he referred to other faiths. Christians, Hindus, Jews etc have never had sex-segregated prayers in Trafalgar Square.

Dear Sadiq Khan, I think some of the prejudice to do with 'singling out Muslims' is to to with their stated intention to kill 'infidels', expecially the bit about beheading them You see, the other religions don't promise that
Sadiq Khan@SadiqKhan

British values mean defending everyone’s right to practise their faith freely. In London, I’m proud Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims and others can celebrate in Trafalgar Square. Singling out Muslims isn’t ‘British values’ - it’s prejudice. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
