Hey Jasmine… Black pilot here. I think you missed the plot. Then again, that’s becoming a pattern. I graduated from West Point. I went through Army flight school. I learned to fly the AH-64 Apache. I deployed to combat and flew 55 combat missions over Baghdad. Nobody handed me a cockpit because of my skin color. Nobody lowered the standards for me. Nobody looked at me and said, “Let’s check a diversity box.” That’s what people like you don’t seem to understand. Suggesting that Black pilots, Black engineers, Black doctors, or Black leaders need special preferences to succeed is not empowering, it’s insulting. I didn’t want a different standard. I wanted the same standard. And when you’re flying into combat, the American people don’t care what race the pilot is. They care whether the pilot is qualified. Merit isn’t racist. Excellence isn’t discriminatory. And reducing every achievement to skin color says far more about your worldview than it does about mine.

I think Katie Porter is right! Why not give health care to everyone in California? Illegal immigrants work hard every day. They pick crops on California’s farms, clean houses, and help keep the state running. So to let them stay healthy can stop bigger hospital problems. Californians need leaders who care about all people, not just citizens. Fox News always makes this sound terrible to scare everyone. But this idea is actually fair and smart! What do you think? Most people have no idea this is even happening in Michigan. In some communities, you can’t just go buy land and build a modest home. You’re effectively forced to build something much bigger… and much more expensive. Take places like Bloomfield Township. In certain neighborhoods, the rules around zoning, lot sizes, and layout make it nearly impossible to build anything small. You’re realistically looking at homes in the 2,500 to 3,500 square foot range or more. So if you’re a young family… or someone just trying to build a simple, affordable home… you’re priced out before you even begin. And here’s the part that doesn’t make sense. We keep hearing about a housing shortage. We keep hearing about affordability. But at the same time, local rules in some areas are quietly making sure smaller, more affordable homes never get built. Supporters will tell you it protects property values and keeps neighborhoods consistent. Critics will tell you it shuts out regular people and drives up costs across the board. Both things can be true. But the bigger question is this: If people want to build a smaller home on their own land… why should they be told no? This is exactly why there’s now a push in Michigan to limit how big local governments can require homes to be. Because right now, in parts of this state, the “American Dream” comes with a minimum square footage… whether you can afford it or not.
