Honoured to join The Honourable @EleanorO_MP, Deputy Mayor @AshleyASalvador, and Alisa Laliberte to celebrate the recipients of the Downtown Student Housing Incentive. With $15 million from the Government of Canada’s Housing Accelerator Fund, new student housing will help bring more life and residents to the heart of Edmonton. We’ve long advocated for more housing and the programs that enable the development industry to build it — and today’s announcement sends a strong signal that our government partners are serious about working with industry to revitalize downtown.

Across the homebuilding and construction sector, our members show up daily, step onto job sites, and quite literally dig into the details. They set the standard for safety, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. At BILD Edmonton Metro, we believe safety is more than a requirement — it is a shared value and a cornerstone of professionalism in our industry. That's why we support the City of Edmonton’s proposed Construction Accountability Program and its goal of strengthening accountability and improving coordination across construction oversight. The program has the potential to build public confidence and support responsible redevelopment by focusing enforcement on builders with repeated compliance issues while recognizing the many who consistently meet high standards. As the program evolves, BILD encourages a transparent, performance-based approach that targets enforcement where it is most needed while avoiding unintended impacts on housing delivery and project viability. We met with City of Edmonton Councillor @michaeljanz to discuss how infill, revitalization, and strong partnerships can help our city stand out, support population growth, and continue to position Edmonton as an affordable place to call home in 2026. It’s no secret that Edmonton is growing rapidly, and we’re focused on planning ahead, from addressing infrastructure gaps and streamlining approvals to implementing meaningful policy change.   Thanks for meeting with us today, Councillor Janz!

It was great meeting with Erin Vanderveen, Neha Mehra, and Jessie Bakker from Stillman LLP yesterday! Building a community — and the homes within it — takes far more than land developers and homebuilders. There are many hands, hearts, and minds involved in shaping great places to live. Legal expertise is a big part of that process. From contracts and regulatory guidance to succession planning and governance, real estate today relies on careful due diligence and strong legal frameworks to ensure deals close smoothly and everyone walks away confident in the outcome. For more than 20 years, Stillman LLP has supported the industry with expertise in business law, construction law, regulatory law, and more. Erin, a partner at the firm, also contributes her time to BILD Edmonton Metro’s NextGen Committee, helping curate programming that connects early- to mid-career professionals, builds relationships across the industry, and ensures knowledge and leadership continue to grow over time. Erin, Neha, and Jessie described their work in law and real estate as solving a puzzle — and from their perspective, the Edmonton region is steadily putting the pieces together to “close the deal” on attracting more investment, more people, and more homes. Thanks for having us!

Exciting news for our downtown. We helped advocate for this program, through our Downtown Investment Plan launched in 2024, as well as ideation with City administration during their Community Revitalization Levy extension engagements. Collaboration works!

The Edmonton region offers a great quality of life and diverse housing, but a big part of this lies in accommodating residents' pets. Our Content Strategist, Payton Phillips, got to chat with Bill Blais, President & CEO of Maclab Development Group, Mike Kohl, Senior Vice President of Alberta Communities at Brookfield, Crystal Brightwell, Vice President of Communities at Cameron Development Corporation, and Matt Sloan, Senior Landscape Architect with the City of Edmonton, about how designing for dogs plays an integral role in the city building process. We are looking for your help to provide feedback so we can continue improving your association! Over the past year, we’ve connected with hundreds of members through one-on-one meetings, roundtables, committees, events, and advocacy discussions. The feedback has been encouraging, but there is always room to grow. This year, we’re taking the conversation deeper by hosting Member Focus Groups, in partnership with our consultant, BadaB. These meetings will be made up of confidential listening sessions — without any BILD staff in the room — to gather candid feedback on what’s working, where gaps exist, and how we can elevate our impact. Available dates: 🔹Monday, March 30 | 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 🔹Wednesday, April 1 | 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 🔹Friday, April 10 | 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. 🔹Tuesday, April 14 | 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. 🔹Thursday, April 16 | 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. 🔹Tuesday, April 21 | 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 🔹Thursday, April 23 | 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. 🔹 Monday, April 27 | 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. If you’re interested in participating, please reach out to Tara at tara.thompson@bildedmonton.com for more details.

Yesterday kicked off the first sporting event of the year… our NextGen Committee’s Pickleball Tournament! We had an awesome time on the courts, smashing serves and cheering each other on.

The winners left with a trophy, while the losing team left with an even better prize, in our opinion! (A jar of pickles, to be exact) 🥒

Thank you to our Tournament Sponsor, Great Canadian Exteriors; Food & Beverage Sponsors, Vita Homes and Stantec; Paddle Sponsor, Homes by New Era; Court Sponsors, Hi Signs and Vita Homes; and Prize Sponsor, JATEC.

After a period of strong seller-driven activity, Edmonton’s housing market is expected to move toward a more balanced state in the coming year. At our Economic Forecast Dinner, industry experts examined housing trends expected in 2026, highlighting that increased construction and a growing supply of new homes have led to higher inventory levels, while demand requires more time to catch up.
