@CommodoreKulor @biospark88 @MaxwelOlinda1 This is one of those things I’m constantly having to explain as clearly as I can in YouTube comment sections, where certain people insist that SNES features like Mode 5 are basically useless, then point to the fact that only a single commercial game used it as “proof.”

We need more #SNESdev that uses Mode 5. Yes, VRAM is a challenge — and so is the fact you don’t get hi-res with sprites. @CommodoreKulor and @MaxwelOlinda1 showed what can be done with it. It remains woefully underexplored.

@CommodoreKulor @biospark88 @MaxwelOlinda1 It’s annoying constantly seeing all the false information being spread about the SNES by certain bad actors. It's “too slow,” Mode 5 is low colour, takes up too much memory and is useless, it can’t handle fast-paced arcade-style action, all its games are cropped, and so on.

@iNCEPTIONALNEWS @CommodoreKulor For a similar effect with the clouds, the seaside level in Ganbare Goemon 3 does something similar with mode 1 in the sky. A little parallax would complete the effect.

@iNCEPTIONALNEWS @CommodoreKulor My AI pipeline paraphrased: You’d use Mode 1 or even 0 for the sky/clouds at the top of the screen, switch to Mode 7 at the horizon, ground plane affine rotating like the FFVI airships. The Sonic sprite would use prerendered angle sets to fake 3D rotation (same trick DKC used).

Estou fazendo alguns testes com modelos 3D no SNES! A ideia vai ser parecida com os inimigos em wireframe de Mega Man X2, mas com uma diferença importante: Tudo é processado pelo console, sem uso de chips especiais! 😁 Botei alguns modelos aleatórios pra testar as capacidades.
