@findmypast Talk about taking “have your say” to a whole new level 😄 Clearly, she had words that needed said, so it's wonderful they've made it into archival collections.

📜 From the archives: the woman who wrote on every inch of her census return While digitising the 1921 Census in 2021, our team stumbled upon an extraordinary record: a return covered with one woman’s handwritten commentary 😮

Socks have long been a mainstay of Christmas gifting, as this spread of Christmas present suggestions from the Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, 9 December 1938, illustrates. Also featured are tins of Quality Street and McVitie's bit.ly/43VL7pr #ChristmasHistory

The plum pudding was banned in England by the Puritans in 1647, along with all other Christmas festivities, as being wicked & pagan when it was flamed. The rest of Christmas was reinstated in 1660 by Charles II, but the pudding wasn’t revived until 1714. #BookologyThursday

@BNArchive That has to be the quiz of all quizzes. A really great representation of key experiences in the history of girlhood. Thank you for sharing.

We can't believe we've nearly come to the end of our celebration of Jackie this month without mentioning the quizzes published by the iconic teen magazine. Here's one from 8 June 1991 which askes 'which girl are you?' What do you get? bit.ly/4oUULB3 #HistoryOfGirlhood

Before Gaol Ferry Bridge was opened in 1935, the most direct route to Bristol Harbour for most people in South Bristol was via a ferry which crossed the New Cut. This ramp on the Coronation Road side of the New Cut was where commuters would queue to cross the water.

Big vibes at the @MarsmUk Dabke Night at @BishopsgateInst on Saturday! There was even food from @ComptoirLibanai too to keep us all fuelled for the dancing 💪🏾. Would love to come to something like this again so hope they'll run this event again in the future 🤞🏾

From a 'flight of fiery whirlwinds' to a 'perfect umbrella of fire', this programme from November 1883 suggests that C. T. Brock and Co's fireworks display in #Ramsgate was a feast for the eyes – and a health and safety nightmare, no doubt! Happy #BonfireNight 🔥 ☟ See U4364/Z3

@BNArchive Really interesting to see how TV Times picked up on this back then. Feels like a reminder of how much has changed, and how much hasn’t. We've come across similar stories in our collections too 📺

A little still life of My trip to London A highlight was going to the @BishopsgateInst with @MissOpium_x and flipping through old fetish magazines from the 90’s. And seeing My Neighbor Totoro in live action! All of these and @TheFemDomBall nourishing My soul
