Though I generally think the whole "network state" concept is deeply flawed and would like to agree with the criticisms leveled against it, all the myopic, moralistic rightoid screeching is so off-putting that it's making me more sympathetic to the other guy. People are loyal to systems which protect their own social and material interests. Tribes, institutions, ideologies, nations and so forth. Many such systems are explicitly designed to do this. If you think that a system has failed you (as it consistently has for white Americans) or that its complete failure is inevitable and imminent (as Musk, Thiel, and others have more or less admitted) then why wouldn't you reevaluate the strength of your commitment to it? It doesn't mean you should open the gates or anything, but if you can GTFO from the shitshow while you still can, then at least consider it. Not all hills are worth dying on. A retreat doesn't have to be a physical one, either. Many on the right have already fully given up on the fundamental myths which comprise the US civic religion. To those for whom the US is primarily an ideological state defined by certain core principles, this would appear as a similar betrayal. You can't have it both ways. You want Indians and "paper Americans" to leave the country for good, yet you also accuse them of being disloyal cowards if they oblige. You want the dignities of citizenship to be conditional on ancestry, kinship, and heritage, but expect unconditional loyalty from everyone to "the people". Which people? America is large and multifarious enough that the question is typically a highly contentious one, as Robert E. Lee had found 165 years ago. Make up your mind already.

Worked 46 years in a factory to pay my home off , no one gave me anything. I paid taxes worked hard and raised my children. Some people like me could not afford to contribute to a retirement account all I have is the SS I paid in and small pension from my employer. I make do with what I have but it’s not easy to come up with the property taxes every year to keep what I have.

How the fuck are younger people supposed to save when Boomers want to shift their tax burden on us after decades of every single life necessity rising in cost far faster than wages?
