@chrisjudetaylor I teach a road narratives course and have found that one effective way to teach On the Road is to follow it up with DeLillo’s Americana, which rips into Kerouac’s toxic masculinity and doesn’t hold back.

@alexrmoskowitz 5k in Boston is just evil. I adjuncted at St. Pete College in Florida before my PhD and made 6k per class, and I thought that was bullshit!

@pourfairelevide @LNmagazine To be fair, the number of people doing legit postcritique is also probably quite small. And in the Jamesonian camp, we at least have the American Vandal crew, which feels more academically significant to me than any disciples of Felski.

@LNmagazine But who is actually doing Jamesonian critique today? A couple dozen midcareer academics? Despite what Felski & co. say, it remains minor tradition that must be defended and developed, not abandoned

imagine looking at the state of the world and thinking that we need a *less* suspicious method of interpreting it. humiliating stuff. we’re not doing this again I’m sorry
Alexandre Lefebvre@alex_usyd

Lots of great academic books out there. This is rarer: a necessary one. It shows how the humanities can be positive, productive, and joyful — not just critical and suspicious. If we’re going to make the field attractive again, it’ll be through books like this. A++

Ridiculous thrill to go on Beyond the Zero to talk about TAVERN. (I can't listen to myself, but maybe you can?) I've been listening to BTZ since its inception & love getting this lovely intimate window into my favorite writers secret canons...

This week @MorrisACollins speaking about THE TAVERN AT THE END OF HISTORY. Get the book from DZANC and listen here or as you caddy for former prince Andrew and remember when an STD was an interstate phone call. open.spotify.com/episode/7jNl3t…

@alexrmoskowitz When Patty and I were renting in Watertown, we were in a house whose back porch looked out at multiple other back porches/yards, creating a kind of de facto courtyard. It was so cool and rewarding to share that space.

@nkolakowski The vampires are a problem. The Klan is plenty scary—you don’t need to make them vampires too!

I wrote about a note I found in Cormac McCarthy's private journal: “The moral clarity of the English speaking people has been a 1,000 years perfecting. It's a pointless task to imagine such a struggle taking less time in some other culture. The notion we are all one is nonsense."

What a fucking stupid argument

Matt Walsh: True Native Americans are white people of European descent @MattWalshBlog "The people that we call Native Americans now are not Native Americans, because they did not form a country called America. America is a country. It's not just a place, it's not just a plot of land. It is a country. And before America was formed as a nation, this place was not America, because America didn't exist. America existed when it was formed. And so if someone can trace their lineage back to the Comanche on the Great Plains. Well, you weren't native to America. You're native to Comancheria."

nah bro, i’m good. thing is if your magnum opus on continental philosophy discusses Judith Butler and the Sokal hoax extensively but only mentions Martin Heidegger once, it’s clear you either don’t know ball or are playing a different game entirely

Some analytic philosophy is linguistically dexterous and eminently readable just as some continental philosophy is logically structured and syntactically clear. Academic maturity is the process of becoming comfortable with such interpretive nuances.
