@nqatpod Why not just daylight rule as the bar for VAR to overrule?

No Question About That
Absurd proposal that’ll obviously give attackers so much of an advantage that defences will have to drop deep to reduce the space. Resulting in more defensive setups. If Wenger wants to reduce VAR controversy just fucking cancel VAR don’t ruin the game.
Ben Jacobs@JacobsBen

🚨 The Canadian Premier League will conduct a 'daylight offside' trial in cooperation with FIFA when its season starts on April 4. The trial is led by FIFA and approved by IFAB. It is designed to favour attackers. 🗣️ FIFA’s Chief of Global Football Development Arsene Wenger: "This is an important pilot. By testing this new interpretation in a professional competition, we can better understand its impact, including in terms of improving clarity and the flow of the game and promoting attacking play. "We look forward to analysing the results of the trial phase. We thank the Canadian Premier League and the Canadian Soccer Association for their willingness to support FIFA with this pilot and for providing their competition." An attacking player will be considered onside if at least one part of their body that can legitimately be used to score in line with (or behind) the second-to-last defender. A player will only be ruled offside if there is a gap – or daylight' – between themselves and the defender. In effect, attackers must be fully beyond the second last defending player to be penalised. FIFA add by "introducing a clearer visual threshold, the trial is aimed at restoring a greater attacking advantage and boosting the flow of matches."

@JemappelleEve Then why do white women vote overwhelmingly to import majority male immigrants?

Sexual access to white women is not a human right. Hope that helps.
Rolf Degen@DegenRolf

Male refugees from Afghanistan and Syria in Germany show a keen interest in forming relationships with local women, but the local women show little interest in forming relationships with them. Germany, in particular, received over 1,4 million refugees between 2014 and 2016, predominantly from Muslim-majority countries such as Syria and Afghanistan. The majority of these arrivals consisted of young, single men within prime marriageable age brackets. This study examines partnership preferences of male refugees from Afghanistan and Syria who arrived in Germany between 2014 and 2016 and female residents of similar age. Overall, our results indicate a high level of openness among male refugees towards partnering with female members of the resident population, but a comparatively low level of openness among the latter towards partnering with recently arrived male refugees. This implies a substantial incongruence in partnership preferences among the two groups. Regarding the educational level of a potential partner, we found that all respondents prefer highly educated partners over those with lower levels of education. This suggests that, for refugees, securing a highly educated partner might serve as a means of upward social mobility and integration into higher-status networks in the host society. Furthermore, it is possible that highly educated women, due to their greater exposure to diverse social environments and potentially less discriminatory attitudes, are perceived as more open to intergroup partnerships, making them a more attractive choice for refugees seeking acceptance and social integration. On the other hand, the reluctance of resident women to accept partnerships with refugees is largely explained by their rejection of the ‘imported’ religious Islam. It is possible that resident women perceive the religious practices of newly arrived refugees as different from their own, reinforcing a social distance that limits intergroup partnerships. Moreover, this reluctance might not only reflect religious differences but also concerns about gender norms or perceived lifestyle incompatibilities.

More here. When you see political polls they are designed to capture views across demographics and populations, with weighted analysis. This VAR survey was a self-selective web form. Those indifferent might feel less motivated to submit responses news.sky.com/story/three-qu…

Do 75% of fans really oppose VAR? That's the claim by the Football Supporters' Association. But not based on scientific, random sampling polling representative of all fans. It was through a website fans had to chose to click on which could skew to those more strongly with views

I think fascism is finally making a comeback in Europe. I'm seeing a lot of these black clad men at rallies. They officially call themselves hooligans but their Roman salute and slogans betray otherwise. At the Remigration protest in Leuven, these guys were defending the rear guard against Antifa. Give them some proper leadership and we can get things done.

VAR should be a background tool for major mistakes. Each manager gets one challenge per game, if successful they keep it, if not it's lost. The time and energy wasted on VAR in matches and discussing it is ridiculous and goes against what should be a free-flowing sport.
Henry Winter@henrywinter

Premier League fans deliver damning verdict on VAR. 75% of 7,946 fans polled by the Football Supporters’ Association “didn’t support the use of VAR”. Too long, too forensic, too much of a joy killer, fans say. Findings shared with Premier League and PGMO. 92% of fans surveyed “agreed” that “VAR has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations” (82% of them “strongly agreed”). 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” with the notion that “VAR makes watching football more enjoyable”. And 83% of those watching on TV. 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” that “VAR decisions are generally resolved in a reasonable amount of time”. Echoed by 83% of those watching on TV. Only 18% agreed that “VAR has improved the overall accuracy of refereeing decisions”. 72% are “concerned about the expansion of VAR beyond its current remit”. 79% “strongly disagreed” with the suggestion “that the match-going experience is better with VAR”. 67% “strongly agreed” that they preferred “watching games that are played without VAR to games with VAR”. 84% “strongly support” goal-line technology. 34% “strongly opposed” to the idea of a challenge system (two per game per team). “These findings back up the FSA's previous survey in 2021, where fans expressed misgivings about the introduction of VAR,” says Thomas Concannon, @WeAreTheFSAPremier League network manager. “The vast majority are reporting the same concerns five years on - the loss of spontaneity when celebrating goals, and an overall worsening of the match-going experience. We have shared the survey results with the Premier League and PGMO, and look forward to discussing its findings with them.” Fans surveyed of all PL clubs and all ages (Under-18 to 65+).

@tonyharrison283 @WealdstoneFC It's a good point and I was thinking about that a lot on Saturday as football is such small margins. We got lucky ! But my main point was that VAR takes away those ultra special moments that football gives you.

@JackPittBrooke @liverpxxl9 Refereeing standards/controversial decisions are for the pundit bores to have something to talk about in the studio (and it's even worse with VAR anyway). Fans will always moan about the ref after a defeat, but they still don't want VAR and never did.

Nobody's forgotten what it was like before because 1) we're not stupid and 2) we watch football that isn't Premier League so we still appreciate the joy of football without VAR. Also VAR doesn't have to be here to stay. That's Webb's mantra in briefings & it's an insult to fans.
