Has the Government misunderstood "an apple a day keeps the doctor away"?

What is ARRS?

The leadership of @RCPhysicians role is to promote clinical excellence and patient safety in medicine- protecting patients from harm and maintaining standards so that patients get the best care possible. They should serve their members in trying to achieve these aims. They have abjectly failed on all counts and should consider whether they are best placed to lead the profession forwards. The leadership ➡️ tried to obstruct the EGM and then tried to dictate what motions could be debated ➡️ Misrepresented voting data at the EGM in an attempt to influence the election ➡️published opinion pieces before the vote in order to influence its outcome ➡️ have colluded with the government to get pro PA newstories in an attempt to get a favourable vote post EGM and attempted to get senior government officials to attend the EGM ➡️ delayed timing of the EGM to after the House of Lord’s debate. many of the Lords would have been influenced knowing the RCP Fellows overwhelming mandate on this issue brought about by the EGM (reminder from @TYoungstein ) ➡️ Disruption of the EGM to stifle debate through filibustering ➡️ have failed to implement the will of the members / overwhelming mandate in full post EGM ➡️ At all stages they have proven to be bad actors, and incapable of delivering the overwhelming mandate of the membership in protecting patients through quality and safe delivery of medicine by those trained to do so. They have acted as the government's enablers of a misguided healthcare policy despite professional and patient concerns and evidence of patient harm. Somewhere along the way, the leadership has lost its way . It's time to do the honourable thing- many of them have had great careers in the past and have done good things - don't destroy your legacies.

Today over 80 Fellows of @RCPhysicians (with >20 Professors of Medicine, 3 elected RCP council members) have signed an expression of concern outlined below around the actions of the leadership of @RCPhysicians that continue to place patients at risk from harm. In the March EGM, members overwhelmingly voted for rejection of the expansion of the PA role and the lack of scope of practice. ➡️Senior leadership have ignored the voting members overwhelming mandate, delaying implementation with references to accepting members views "in principle" rather than in full. ➡️ Senior leadership's actions continue to undermine the college's international reputation ➡️ Senior leadership do not represent their members and do not serve to protect patients at risk from harm from the unregulated expansion of the PA role without a clear scope of practice The current leadership should consider whether they are best placed to continue serving the members, implementing the members overwhelming wishes and protecting patients from harm. It is time to place the reputation of the college, the wishes of the membership and safety of patients over all other considerations. Qualifying doctors, who need a job to become fully registered, are due to start work in mid July. Hundreds currently have no idea where/what their jobs will be, despite promises from NHS employers. A disgraceful way to treat new professionals & disastrous workforce planning.
