@KlendathuCap That show was horrendous. Spoiler, they help Ukrainian fighters grenade a Russian official's airplane

@Richard_Vixen Richmond's more American than that; has better to offer. All the smoke/vape shops are a scourge
English

@TwoForFooz @gmoomaw @SamuelParkerRTD So it sounds like currently there is no actual consequence for the owner if he doesnt pay a speeding ticket.
English

@Bob_D_Hauer @gmoomaw @SamuelParkerRTD The ticket is on the car owner since they can’t prove who was driving.
The new law will give localities the ability report unpaid tickets to DMV which can prevent registration or tag renewal.

Almost 2/3 of the tickets issued by Richmond's speed cameras in 2025 haven't been paid, per @SamuelParkerRTD

@roseromaunt Constance Garnett translated Dostoevsky over 100 years ago. People actually like her translations.
English

This is the heart of it btw. It's not translation for the sake of conveying one of the greatest stories of the classical age, but translation to own the chuds.

Emily Wilson not my favorite translator but I looove how mad she makes guys who suck

@spqr_sulla Agree. Oddly enough though, the Coens and Bob Dylan understand America better than most in "entertainment"

@GraduatedBen Bison are good for the environment too. They dont pull up roots when they graze

Ted Turner was a Great American.
Besides preserving great old films, he was also responsible for bison’s big comeback. His philosophy was, “You have to eat them to save them." What he did with bison ranching (he had the largest private herd) and marketing their meat took bison from an extreme niche product that few ranchers would bother with to a consistently profitable and widely available meat, the meat that Americans should be eating and absorbing the power of.

Ted Turner's favorite movie was GONE WITH THE WIND ('39). He loved the movie so much that he bought the entire catalogue of movies from MGM Studios and pre-1948 Warner Bros. so he could air and preserve them. We honor our founder by airing the film tomorrow night at 8pm ET.

@memeticsisyphus Have you read Antony Beevor's "Russia: Revolution & Civil War"? If so, how did McMeekin's book compare?
