@SkySportsPL What is the point of these reviews other than to undermine the refs?
English

@jasnalder @HACKETTREF Take away the technology (apart from goal-line), leave it to humans and embrace the inconsistency (not just of officials). Then we'll have our game back. #var
English

@bobbounds65 @HACKETTREF Yes that’s the point, the referee disagreed with another referee (VAR), that other ref will referee next time and in a similar situation will call it differently! Whether you agree with the call or not, the lack of consistency is very worrying as are the laws of the game 🤷♂️
English

@HACKETTREF So what happened to the referee having 'full authority' over the game according to FA rules?
English

After been the boss of the PGMOL and a Referee on the Premier League and FIFA InternationalPanel for ten years. I fully understand the criteria of operation of VAR. I also know that the ref got it wrong He got it wrong 100%

@HACKETTREF I don't think you understand what VAR is there for. Ref backed his on-field decision. Move on.

@MaxKendix @thetimes The Times cricket team will be poorer without you - but good luck!

🚨🇺🇸 I'm moving to DC next month to join @thetimes team across the pond as Washington Correspondent
Will miss my incredible colleagues here after two years in Westminster but very excited for the new job!

@Baddiel Hemingway is in there, Farewell to Arms. I'd swap one of Dickens three (more would be deserved but greedy) for Tale of Two Cities.
English

@BBCSteveR @Eurovision Brilliant. But would have been improved by wearing a Napolean hat.
English

My earliest Eurovision memory is watching ABBA win in 1974. Ahead of tonight’s 70th Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, here’s my reflective version of Waterloo. @Eurovision
English

@henrywinter I was at Wembley in 2018 Eng v Italy when VAR was first used. Italy appealed for a pen late on and I watched the ref run over to the side and look at a TV screen. I was laughing. Surely this isn't how they do it? Yep. And he gave it. #var
English

At some point, they will have to play the audio of the decision-making process live, the communication between referee and VAR. IFAB against, though. But why shouldn’t match-goers - who fund the game - and viewers - who fund the game - know exactly what’s going on in the game? It would increase transparency for a start.
It would engage fans (maybe enrage) rather than keeping them fiddling their thumbs, impatient for a decision. It works in rugby union (TMO) and cricket (DRS) - admittedly sports with different rhythms and volatility in responses. It might put additional pressure on officials, but it’s a mess currently and fans deserve a more transparent process.

@itvpeston @NadineDorries @jon_trickett If you give someone a 'personal gift' of £5m and he accepts, you own him. It's pretty simple.
English

“It was before he was an MP and it was a personal gift”
“So why did he keep it a secret?”
@NadineDorries and @jon_trickett clash over a £5m crypto gift Nigel Farage received from Christopher Harborne

@GerryMoore101 Agree. @BBCWorldatOne just described it as"another extraordinary day at Westminster" Apart from the opening of parliament (hardly a surprise) nothing has actually happened.
English

Why is everything in media reports skewed towards create chaos? On #skynews just now the anti Starmer MPs could now scupper legislation Where has that come from?
English

@rioferdy5 @Casemiro @ManUtd @YouTubeCreators @RioMeets It's been a joy to have him in the @premierleague love the way he plays the game, competitive but fair. From a West Ham fan.
English

@matthewsyed The 24-hour news cycle and social media is a toxic combination. There's no time to take a breather, take stock. 'We want something to happen, and we want it NOW!'
English

@bobbounds65 Sooner we get Labour out of the way, the sooner we can get the chancers and false prophets of @reformparty_uk done too
English

Labour have learnt nothing from the Toryshambles. They're basically handing the keys to No 10 to Farage. #starmer thetimes.com/article/bc195f…
English

@DJack_Journo @reformparty_uk I think the Tories need a little more time in rehab.
