@kestrelpsych @coachsabre @kestrelpsych, I feel that the comments about “conflicts of interest” and “use whatever you want” reflect neither the authorship team nor the arguments. There is scope for more discourse, reflection, and feedback in this area and hope this paper plays a part in these.

@coachsabre I will file this in my “conflict of interest folder” trying to get more people to pay them for “consulting”. Saying you can use whatever you want to coaches is not pragmatic, it’s unstructured.

Good paper/concerns. Is anyone saying ecod minimises cognitive aspects of skill acq? Doesn’t make sense! Imagery, +ve self talk, SDT, AGT etc all useful from cognitive psychology, but meaningless when disaggregated from the way the individual relates to environmental forces.

I really want to be a big supporter of rail in Scotland but @ScotRail are making it quite difficult.

@tinaduijn @ShakeyWaits I think the comparison groups need to reflect what coaches actually do (e.g., no more than two or three explicit instructions max) and instruct the same task. At present, mismatches in instruction quantity, quality, relevance, etc. could easily explain findings.

@bobrownicki @ShakeyWaits I love these discussions. How could we accurately investigate the effect of analogy instruction on learning, while using analogies in their 'intended' way (i.e., as an only, sufficient instruction) and comparing them to sufficient explicit information?

Fifty free copies of our latest paper that aims to 1) stimulate debate and 2) encourage wider and more nuanced perspectives in skill acquisition research and practice. ‘It is difficult to understand the universe if you only study one planet’: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

@andykirkland71 @DCGreyMattersUK Thanks for reading, although those aren't quite our words or intended meaning. Rather than suggest readers see Collins et al. for a more balanced view, we instead aimed to refer readers to the paper to see more on adopting a PJDM approach that balances different perspectives.

Thanks Job for the comment. We agree completely and try to put out well balanced and evidenced papers that advance practice. Nice to have the need recognised. Frustrating when we receive “yah boo” argumentative comments! Cheers

@DCGreyMattersUK ... to further stimulate scientific discussion. This is especially helpful as those of us embedded in practice realise pragmatic (rather than extremist) approaches are needed. Thanks Dave and colleagues for (hopefully) stimulating this discussion.

Usual free copies. This one is us questionning the lpublicised paper that inks between Bruce Lee and EcoD. Rather similar to when we questioned the link between EcoD and American Football!! Enjoy tandfonline.com/eprint/VW2U5DV…

A practical read: "A continuation of the status quo – where criticisms are not addressed or remain unacknowledged – is not in the interest of applied practitioners who will want to understand how, why, and when to either apply or avoid implicit methods." tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
