@davidfrum No, these cops have definitely shown themselves to be cowards. The parents weren't, and they faced the same threat. Seppuku is the honorable path left open for these cops.

If a gunman in a school is too difficult and dangerous for a typical local police force to handle, the right response is not to condemn local police forces as cowardly. The right response is to discredit the "good guy with a gun" fantasy.

This is just unthinkable: SEVEN police officers were inside the school but did not confront the shooter per @CNN. They waited "about an hour" for a Border Patrol tactical team to arrive. A full hour. Seven armed officers to one 18 year-old. The good guys with the guns?

firmly believe that if you rounded up random adults off the street, gave them a gun and gave them the opportunity to stop a school shooting, even without training, a significant number would try it

@esaagar It was a hostage situation, and correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it cause more harm than good if cops tried barging into the classroom while the shooter had kids held at gunpoint? I guess hindsight is 20/20.

The word "contain" is very important. Remember all children were killed in a single classroom. So are we to understand that officers were on site and waiting for backup from border patrol while Ramos was murdering children inside?

The timeline is confusing and needs more explaining: Per McCraw's comments the school resource officer saw the crash and "followed him in" then exchanged fire with Ramos. At that point 2 other officers engaged Ramos and were wounded who then "contained" Ramos in classroom
