Maybe I’m just speaking for myself but I think centrists underrate how much left wing frustration comes from the feeling that Dems just aren’t taking this stuff seriously. They could get a lot of goodwill just by running someone with a credible electoral record.

As a point of comparison, Gerald Murnane’s most popular book on Goodreads (The Plains) has 2900 reviews. Goodreads reviews are also a pretty good proxy for relative book sales (or at least were a few years ago).

It’s reissued and in-print with one of the most highly regarded presses in the world (New Directions), was reviewed by the New Yorker in 2015, and has 4000 Goodreads reviews. Seems well-loved tbh!

Yes because choosing to root for the Yankees if you are not born into it is proof of defective character. This is less about "the gentrifier laptop class" and more about "anyone with a moral center would not willingly choose to root for the Yankees." I would personally be thrilled so many good and ethical people were moving to my city!

Workshopping a new take that corners are basically the running backs of defense. In a vacuum, sure it's awesome to have an elite guy. But so much of their success is so dependent on what the other 10 guys are doing that I see them more as finishing pieces than the foundation.

I think in Dr. Robby's case it is sharp and very intentional. Interestingly, the biggest example of the show's unintentional sexism (that old guy hitting on McKay in a "charming" way) was largely unremarked on by fans who think Robby is the moral center of season 2 (he isn't)
