I think it’s disgusting the United States charges $100 per person visiting our country to enter a National Park. Embarrassing too!

@MissJilianne @johny_5_alive You know we pay for it with our taxes right? And they don’t? So it’s basically the only way it doesn’t turn into a theme park for people who don’t live here?

@DerekPederson3 That's kind of how it works. That's why demographic pyramids are so important. During the most productive part of your life, you contribute so that during less productive parts (before and after) you in turn can benefit from others.

“Young people should bear nearly all the costs of having a functioning society, pay the most in taxes, and get the least in benefits.” This is genuinely a widespread position across the political spectrum.

Mass deportations are horrible. Yes, your wages would go up and housing would be more affordable. Your school would have more resources while your health and car insurance rates would go down. But GDP might go down a bit. Is that really something you'd want?

@uglytroglodyte @varrock Well the government would reinvest in productive spending like on infrastructure, instead of cool cars for Somalis who don’t have drivers licenses, which would have gdp increasing 2nd order effects

@varrock Your family would be safer, your cities would be cleaner, and the debt wouldn't exceed the gdp, but you might feel a lil bummed 😕

Everything is shit across the board but I think if I had to name the single thing that has made me feel most insane in our present reality, it’s that no one powerful ever, ever, ever faces consequences no matter what they do. There are simply zero mechanisms for accountability.

You are personally subsidizing the destruction of one of the most precious resources on the planet: topsoil. You get out of bed on Monday morning and trudge to work so that your tax dollars can pay industrial farmers to do this

Yikes! Dust storm in Champaign, IL, earlier this afternoon. Thankfully, the winds are quieting down now this evening in Illinois. No major issues are expected in Indiana, either. This photo is courtesy of Champaign County Emergency Management

assisted suicide is one of those things where i very strongly agree in theory but in practice seeing people be told “well no we won’t cover this treatment for your disease but you CAN kill yourself” is absolutely fucking heinous

Again, I had a loved one in my family choose MAiD when he was in the last months of painful bladder cancer. I see a lot of people here calling it immoral. The only immoral thing I see is making people suffer when they choose to die on their own terms with dignity. #cdnpoli 🇨🇦

Reminder: When the Panama Papers came out it revealed all the rich people in the world are part of an enormous criminal conspiracy to dodge taxes and hoard stolen wealth in offshore accounts and literally nothing happened except a reporter working on the story was assassinated.

Immigrants are overrepresented in both Nobel prizes and patents. The US needs and can do 10x the job it is developing home grown talent but the reality is that losing elite immigrants would be a disastrous step back for the country. Elon is an immigrant for example. Yes, I understand that the 8 million who streamed over the border from 2021 to 2024 were not elite human capital. That was a travesty, but you cannot throw talented immigrants out with the people who couldn’t find jobs in their home countries.
Jack Strocchi@jstrocchi

@Molson_Hart "We have a long tradition of importing highly motivated people to improve our country." Immigration is an exception, not the rule. Most US achievement (eg Nobel prozes) has been home grown rather then foreign sourced.

This confirms what every teacher in the classroom knows. Ability grouping works. The bottom quartile hold back the kids at the top. We are throttling our top achievers and it will destroy our country. We need innovators and thinkers and developers. We must unleash our top achievers, let them run. Those students in the bottom quartile need small classes with teachers and pull out interventions. Push in does not work, it simply distracts the rest of the class and makes the classroom noisy. Every school elementary-high school must move to ability grouped classes. No more grade levels. They are arbitrary and don’t matter. Let kids accelerate as fast as possible, and conversely give the students who are struggling the intervention they need.
Jack@tracewoodgrains

Ability grouping, with appropriately tailored curriculum, helps high-achieving students and does not hurt others. The research has pointed this way for a century despite generations of propaganda to the contrary, but it's good to have another reminder. Ability grouping works.

@afronxrcissist @123itsmeMary No like the stem students are statistically also the best at those. They’re strictly the most competitive programs. You have to be talking about like, PhD level literary criticism before they aren’t the best still

@shagbark_hick They used to call this “block busting” and it was extremely common. The landlords did this to acquire cheap real estate by driving prices down. They used section 8 tenants to accomplish this.

Conversely, suppose you created a "mobile de-gentrification unit". A fleet of rusty RV's inhabited by drunkards, pit bull owners, petty criminals, and so on. You roll up on a heavily-gentrified area, park the RV's, and commence creating havoc. That'd fix housing cost issue very quickly. I'm not even joking. A thousand ruffians in RV's, liquored up, engaging in petty crime, keeping the police consistently overworked, causing mass-scale pearl-clutching amongst the propertied. Besiege them long enough and houses start to go up on the market quickly. Then you buy them up and pay your ruffians to move on to the next target. If you're mad about the price of housing, why not take some ACTION? I'm sure it'd work in many places. Total chaos.

I suppose if they arrested 1,200 people, every home in Oakland would instantly be worth 2 million +. Be careful what you wish for I guess.

They’re suffering Great Depression level unemployment figures, those who do have a job are used as a tax farm by Boomers who own multi-million dollar houses they’ll never afford, and they’re being actively replaced in their own country. What did you think would happen? “Radicalization” should be expected when you declare total political war on an entire generation. It’s actually a testament to the extreme reasonableness and agreeableness of the Canadian people that they haven’t yet launched an armed revolution against the state.

“On an expired F-1 student visa… he scammed elderly Americans out of $15 million.” 23-year-old Indian national (Atharva Shailesh Sathawane) just got 18 years in federal prison. He dropped out of school in 2023, overstayed his student visa, then acted as a courier in an international elder fraud ring — draining retirement accounts, stealing cash & gold, with co-conspirators back in India. They’ll call this another “isolated incident.” How many grandmas and grandpas have to lose their life savings before we admit the F-1/student visa pipeline is wide open to abuse? America First means protecting American seniors — not importing more fraud risks. Secure the visas. End the scams.
War Correspondent@warDaniel47

🚨 BREAKING: Indian foreigner on a Biden AUTOPEN expired visa just got sentenced for MASSIVE FRAUD They stole $15M meant for our elderly American population. KEEP ARRESTING! Prosecute then deport every foreign fraudster, the American people are DONE.
