PAKISTAN: Seven members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Awami Action Committee (AAC) have been arbitrarily detained for over 45 days under Pakistan’s anti-terrorism law, solely for peacefully exercising their rights to assembly and expression. The charges stem from allegations that 13 AAC members made “anti-state” speeches during an Iftar dinner on 8 March and made plans to arrange a protest, all rights guaranteed under international human rights law. Among those detained is 70-year-old lawyer and AAC chairperson Ehsan Ali, whose continued detention has raised grave concerns regarding his right to life and due process. Despite applications filed by his lawyers requesting hospitalization, Ehsan was denied appropriate medical care until his condition drastically worsened. He was transferred to the hospital only after developing pneumonia and losing consciousness while in police custody. Ehsan has been under police guard at District Head quarter Hospital Gilgit along with two other AAC activists, Ibrar Bahoro and Hasnain Ramal. His lawyers have raised concerns that given his underlying heart condition and current health, the care being provided at the current medical facility is inadequate. In addition, other ACC activists named in the case have been forced to curtail their right to freedom of movement, association, peaceful assembly and freedom of expression out of fear of arrest and remain unable to campaign for the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan on 7 June 2026. Amnesty International calls on the Pakistani authorities to immediately release all detained AAC activists and drop all charges against them related to their peaceful activism. Pending release, the authorities must ensure that immediate access to adequate healthcare is provided to all detainees. Arbitrary detentions of ACC members must not be used to curtail the rights guaranteed under international human rights law, including in the lead up to, during and after the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Comrades in Manchester were held in police kettles for hours yesterday while Britain First were able to continue their hate march around the city centre. Here’s what we had to say once we broke out of their kettle!

@UranianOctober @MSpavin1917 Do you think Corbyn would still accept the invite if he knew he would be speaking under a giant banner of Lenin's face?

@MSpavin1917 BTW, Militant used to understand this, which is why it invited Tony Benn and other Labour Left Social Democrats to its rallies and events. Does this, by itself, make Ted Grant a Social Democrat who was not "even trying to be a Socialist anymore"?

Just looked at the Marxism 2026 lineup and a genuine half of it are avid anti-Marxists and anti-communists. It's like they're not even trying to be socialists anymore.

@mushroomentity @MSpavin1917 I'm convinced if it wasn't for the brand recognition Marxism acquired in the 80s, it would have been renamed decades ago

@MSpavin1917 i wouldn't even be so mad if they didn't use the term 'Marxism', like if you wanted to call it 'Left Festival' or something whatever but calling them 'Marxism' boils my blood

@bolshawvik @jsp1747 @LeftieStats @johnbestwest Another reason why Liverpool is great is we have comrades teaching us who led the great Liverpool struggle of the 80s Those struggles will come again, only at a higher level. The preparatory work our comrades take is pivotal, our roots within the workers movement will prove key

@omgkringeh @jsp1747 @LeftieStats @johnbestwest You're absolutely right that we're both small, tiny I would say. The tasks of the RCI, even with our ~10k members, is still focussed finding and preparing it's initial cadre

@omgkringeh @jsp1747 @LeftieStats @johnbestwest Whereas the RCI has 4 sections with ~1000 members, about half a dozen with ~500. Btw I'm not saying this is (necessarily) a good or a bad thing, just that it's a curious difference

@jsp1747 @LeftieStats @johnbestwest There are many ways to define a member, it can't really be compared directly. You're correct that the right ideas are what matters though!

@LeftieStats @johnbestwest Ultimately it doesn't matter - the right ideas are what matters - but I'm not even sure the RCP would claim they had more members than us. They would criticise us on many levels but they would say: for now we are behind them at the very least lol…

@bolshevikindie At this stage, the party press is considered the voice of the party, the public face that represents the party to the world. With this in mind, it would be undemocratic to allow an opinion the majority of the party are against to be published, whether it's labelled or not

Ok, so since the RCI is so large an organization, why can't we see open debates on political issues being printed in their paper, the different opinions, minority factions propagating their views before the time for a decisive action?
