@MartinSLewis Parents died couple of years ago. House left to me and siblings. Accepted offers to sell. Buyers have dropped out a couple of times (broken system where anyone can drop out at any time for any reason with no consequence). Being charged double Council Tax bc it’s a “second home”.

Disappointing how little big media pickup this change has had. Its such an under the radar story as people don't discuss it enough. Yet typically over 1m people get baliffs sent in by councils each year and over 3m area in council tax arrears. This isn't small potatoes
Martin Lewis@MartinSLewis

NEWS! The govt has just announced its changing the Council Tax Debt Collection rules on the back of @mmhpi recommendations. Here's my official quote ----- Council Tax debt collection is so aggressive it’d make banks blush. It’s the most vicious and damaging form of legal debt collection out there - causing counterproductive misery for millions. We’ve spent the last 18 months campaigning hard to change this hideous system, and having seen so much pain caused by it, I’m genuinely moved by this huge first step towards making things better. Currently, in England, if you miss a monthly payment, many councils, within usually 3 weeks, demand payment for the entire year. How people who can’t find a month’s money are expected to find a year’s I don’t know. Yet if they can’t pay, within just three more weeks, they are often taken to court, have ‘admin costs’ added, and soon see bailiffs sent in. No commercial firm would be allowed to do anything close - constituents are treated worse than customers. The new rule from next April means councils must wait two months, not 3 weeks, to ask for a year’s money, and the ‘admin costs’ will be capped at £100. In a perfect world, it would be even longer and the lower cap would apply, but this is still a hugely welcome change to a 33-year-old process. For councils too, it is worth remembering that this grotesque system is often catastrophic for people’s finances and wellbeing, leaving many needing more help and support, and ultimately the same council having to pick up the pieces.

Noone else would pose for photos. Here's John, one of our Advanced Nurses #APNP with a free ice cream. The ice cream man came to @WWLNHS while John was in #MRIscanner. One of the radiographers went & got ice cream! Do you think he is a little excited? #InternationalNursesDay

Mental health services in the UK are broken. It can often take months to see a specialist. Nearly 8000 doctors applied to become psychiatrists this year. However over 7000 of them have been stopped from becoming specialists, due to government restrictions on training spots (400 training positions only). We need more psychiatrists to cut the waiting list times, yet we have arbitrary government imposed restrictions on how many doctors are allowed to actually become specialists. How is this allowed to happen?

Oriel update - 7845 people applied to core psych for ~400 jobs 🤯 appreciate some of this will be people who’ve thrown in an application just in case - but that is WILD My MSRA score last year would’ve got me roughly a rank in the top 100 but this year it’s top 800, what?!

@Mtg_Success @thatteacherguy_ You’ve obvs never worked in a school. Over 200 children in a mainstream primary and that’s a small school. Lunches are staggered and additional staff employed. Try to do that before 9am without roping the teaching staff in who are already in school prepping for the day ahead

Is anyone else completely baffled as to where exactly the hundreds of children would go in their school if they suddenly had to offer free breakfast clubs to them all? Not to mention who would staff it? How long feeding them all would take etc?

Mummy, will you teach me about looking after children? Every shift, she asks me who I've looked after, how old they are, and what we had to do. I obviously anonnoymize and make it age appropriate. But I love how interested she is in looking after others 🥰

@KirstieMAllsopp Sorry but while I understand you felt uncomfortable when it happened, I really don't understand why you want to highlight it now. I'll probably get shouted down but that's my honest opinion. It's a few inappropriate words. Nothing more. Let it go.

Why say nothing? Because you feel, in no particular order, embarrassed, a prude, shocked, waiting for a male colleague to call him out, not wanting to “rock the boat”, thinking it’s better to plough on with the day, assuming you misheard/misunderstood or just don’t get the joke.

@shiner_sam That was so lovely of you Sam. It must have been upsetting. It happened to me once, almost identical circumstances. I had to stop traffic and wrap it in my coat. I was walking at the time but a lovely lady took it in her car to the vet. When I rang later it had passed away 🥲

Was out on a run and some idiot hit a cat and drove off. I had to literally jump in the road to stop the traffic so I could get the poor baby off the road. He died in front of me, I had to carry him home in my arms, wrap him up and drive him to the vets. So upsetting 🙁

@RainbowWardWWL 👏👏 EVERYONE should look at this, especially those who work in health, education and social care. It helps you to stop and think before you prejudge and introduces empathy to the situation. Well done
