On behalf of the Ministry of Health, I convey deep sorrow following the passing of Dr. Job Obwaka at the age of 83, a veteran obstetrician and former Director at the Nairobi Hospital. Dr. Obwaka devoted his life to advancing medical practice in Kenya, leaving an invaluable contribution to the medical fraternity through his clinical excellence, leadership and mentorship of generations of practitioners. His work significantly strengthened standards of care and improved outcomes in maternal and reproductive health services across the country. We honour his distinguished service and commitment to humanity and we extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues and the wider medical community during this difficult time.

Last night, NASA launched a 10-day moonbound mission called Artemis II. This mission is a journey of 1 MILLION KILOMETERS. It is a figure-eight trajectory, looping out from Earth, around the Moon, and back again. It is a test mission for the next lunar exploration by Artemis III, scheduled for 2027, which will be conducted by a SpaceX spaceship. I captured these women and a man at a place called Bituyu, on my way to Kimilili, Bungoma County. They are fetching water from that thin, lowland stream. These people have an MCA, a governor, and a senator. Water is a devolved function, therefore, it is the duty of the County Government to provide clean, uninterrupted water for them. They can't provide water, but during election time, ballot boxes will arrive at the polling stations on time. These people also have a pompous MP who is campaigning to be Governor and rides in choppers and a fleet of SUVs While you focus on charlatans and their political chicanery, the pressing issues affecting our people are left backstage as we get entertained by political drama. This morning I attended to this 26-year-old man. For the past 1 month, he has been having inexplicable thirst and urination. He drinks too much water and urinates a lot. Last week, he went to a local hospital and was diagnosed with Diabetes, and then given drugs to swallow • Metformin • Glibenclamide • Empagliflozin • Atorvastatin His weight is 93 kg. Today, I measured his blood glucose, and despite him being on those medications, the reading was high at 14.4 mmol/L. In the hospital, he went, nobody told him anything about diet. He was just given medication and told to come back after 1 month. I have done the following, • Discussed and modified his diet. • Given him a physical workout schedule. • Discarded all those drugs but retained Metformin and Glibenclamide as a single dose (Glucomet-N) for 2 weeks. • Advised him on daily Fasting Blood Glucose results sent to me every morning at 9 am. I will review him after a month. When I sensitise you to take care of your health, you think you are too young to suffer from Diabetes or Hypertension. "We shall all die." Why didn't this young man sit at home and wait to die, since "we shall all die?" Stop being mediocre and start forging discipline. Hospitals are in business, and your health is the commodity on sale.
