@AdamWylde I think labelling it as a complete rebuild is a bit of a stretch, with Caufield, Suzuki, and Guhle all being part of the organization at the time of the SCF trip. Extremely effective management, but not a complete turnover of the organization

I'll never get over the Habs going to the SCF, rebuilding completely, and then going to the ECF in a 5 year span Meanwhile we in Toronto got a couple of franchise era defining defeats in the second round against the Panthers. One day... this will not be the Leafs. One day.

Interesting graphic from @NHLPR. Perspective makes Vegas hitting Conference Final for fifth time in nine years as a franchise all the more impressive. Not pictured: Columbus, Seattle and Utah.

@JackWhitty99 One could argue that it’s not much of a decision at all (they take him)

@CofRedCentral @andyjonas1975 They’d only be getting 1 (they pick at 6 anyways). And teams that try to take shortcuts in the core years of the rebuild often end up right back there before too long (happened to us 10 years ago)

@andyjonas1975 I don’t think it is. They would be getting two high end prospects, which would accelerate the rebuild a bit

Ok, let’s try this again… To SJ: 2027 1st (top 3 protected), 2026 VGK 1st, Hunter Brzustewicz, Connor Zary, 2026 NYR 2nd round pick To CGY: 2nd overall Then you go: #2: Stenberg #6: Carels

@CofRedCentral There’s a decent chance that: a) Stenberg falls on draft day (Pronman’s rankings tend to reflect NHL teams’ opinions and he has him at 6…👀), b) the guy at 6 is better than the guy at 2, c) next year we can finally address the need at C

@CofRedCentral Not in this year’s draft. There is very little that would make me want to trade away the ‘27 pick. That draft is looking very strong and with lots of Cs, and we might finally be able to fill that need. I’d trade any of our acquired picks, but that won’t get it done

@CofRedCentral Extremely unlikely without moving up. Lawrence’s stock has dropped, but he still probably goes top 12. Maybe higher because of the lack of centres in this draft

I’m an idea guy, stupid ideas but nonetheless, ideas. Is there a world where the #Flames could come out of the first round with Carels and Lawrence?

@ColtonBaxter17 Not to mention it’s pushed by all the same people whining about the playoff format who don’t have the self awareness to realize that it suffers from the same pitfalls

@ColtonBaxter17 BPA. I’d go for it. Organizational fit is contingent on players hitting their upside and no certain. If they believe he’s the best guy then take him (I’d take him there)

@Pete___Hughes If you think the other guys just aren’t that, Smits makes sense. But you need to understand who you’re getting. Could be the best #4 in the league, maybe a good #3

@Pete___Hughes I feel like Smits isn’t a terrible bet, you just need to understand who you’re getting. The “certainty” is fairly high but you can’t draft him expecting a top pair guy (the team that takes him will). I’m relatively high on Reid, but similar story. Be realistic with projections

Chase Reid, Alberts Smits going Top 10 is something I will follow for years. If a Team takes either over Verhoeff, Carels, Rudolph, Villeneuve they’re nuts. But alas I’m willingly to be proven wrong. Reid’s pivot, defensive zone passing is atrocious. Smits is old, not creative.

Just did some @OHL_History type research. The OHL/OMJHL/OHA has had at least one player score 100pts in a season every year since 1962-63. That year Gary Dineen led the league in scoring with 95pts. Right now the OHL leading scorer is Nathan Aspinall with 89pts.

What a deadline Conroy best #Flames gm of my lifetime super happy with the direction of this team gonna be a fun team to watch very soon, we have all known that Conroy can draft but his trades have been on point and he just continues to improve as the captain of the ship. Flames prospects rankings out shortly🫡

@SlapshotShibe While I generally agree, if they deploy him on the 3rd pair he’s not really stealing the spot of a youngster (the Pachal role). More realistically they ice him and Pachal and Zayne takes the fall, which I don’t agree with. Let’s see what happens with Weegar…

Whitecloud was probably thrown in the Ras trade for salary cap/roster spot reasons. He wasn't the focal point of the trade so I wonder what Cgy does with him? Keeping him around kinda defeats one of the reasons for the Ras trade in the first place (it opened up a D spot) #Flames

@RedHotHockeyYYC @puckempire In Cooper’s defence, the other lines really weren’t giving him much, especially with Crosby injured (Stone-Sid-Marner was great in prelims). I blame Armstrong and team selection for not bringing enough pure scorers

@puckempire I honestly don't know. We were one shot away from Gold. But Coop relied way too much on the big line. He couldn't get the best out of the rest of the lineup. As for Armstrong, I really didn't like his defensive selections. We needed more puck movers with a good first pass.

Should Jon Cooper be back as Team Canada's head coach at the 2028 World Cup? Should Doug Armstrong be back as GM? Why or why not? Curious to hear thoughts.. 🇨🇦

@Pete___Hughes I personally think it’s a case of a big, smooth skating D who doesn’t always look like he’s hustling because of his huge range (he doesn’t have to). You wouldn’t confuse him with Schaefer, but skating is not an issue. Imagine how much better he’d look in the WHL…

People keep saying to me that Keaton Verhoeff has “Heavy Boots”. Who started this line of thinking? I couldn’t find any Videos that weren’t trademarked, but he has coast to coast speed and fantastic lateral agility. Whoever is perpetuating this rumour STOP IT PLEASE.
