@BradJamin3 Are you aware of how old she is and how many years it will be before a party she leads has enough seats in parliament to form government even in the absolute best case scenario?

@CarltonFC Hollands being dropped is overdue. He has been very avg. Not sure Cottrell is the right choice ahead of Acres comparing their VFL form. Similar to Moirs selection. Zero selection integrity,

@JustAcidity @hasumpstuffedup What benefits would that bring, truly? NRL use full time officials and it definitely doesn’t help there. Umpires are als on year to year contracts - they go full time you’ll see fewer people willing to pursue it to the elite level because of the lack of security and poor pay

I'm getting close to giving up on this account. HTB officiation absolutely shocking tonight (and not just that) The poor umpiring at the AFL level is starting to ruin games. Both games this weekend officiated appallingly #AFLTigersDees

Look I know he's going to get delisted. But we aren't paying him 700k a year or whatever it is to be sitting in Victoria and not contributing in anyway whatsoever. Surely he can be of help in some way?

Port Adelaide ruckman Ivan Soldo has quietly relocated to Victoria since having ACL surgery, where he'll continue his rehab. 30-year-old's three-year contract will expire at the end of the year after 9 games for the Power @7NewsAdelaide @7AFL

@heavyside @ollycaffrey You need to go touch some grass if you think a Dad has deliberately used a completely normal and common word to describe his son on purpose to avoid accountability. Absolutely devoid of any grounding in real life.

@bostonicus @ollycaffrey I’m not disputing that. What I’m saying is that it was used intentionally - in the very first line of the post I might add - in the context that it would render any accountability void, which brings me back to my original post. Thank you for making my point.

@heavyside @ollycaffrey lol, you’re being willfully ignorant. I gave you a short list of the various ways boy and girl are used every day when describing adults, there’s an even longer list! It is completely normal in many, many contexts to use boy or girl for adults, including in his dad’s post.

You know full well what context it was being used in and it was most definitely not to portray him as “one of the boys”. In fact, I would suggest that would have been the furthest context it would have been used in given the circumstances. So now you are just being disingenuous or willfully ignorant.

A boy rode his bike. A man rode his bike. Which one is the adult? Deep down everyone would sense the point I am making has truth to it. Admittedly, the subject matter and nature of the post on which I chose to air this point is a sensitive topic for this very reason - so I am well aware of people’s instinctive negative reactions to it. But that doesn’t make it any less true or important.

@heavyside @ollycaffrey Subversive co-opting of terminology? Which part of we all use boy and girl to describe adults as part of the English language don’t you understand? We always have. There is no co-opting occurring. Pull your head in.

Where does it suggest that at all? I’m not even talking about mental health. I’m talking about the subversive co-opting of terminology that undermines societies ability to have open discourse. How is that even close to whatever it is your jumbled mess of a response is trying to suggest?

In all honesty, I am frustrated with the way everyone has handled this from the beginning. And it all comes down to people in positions of authority not being able to say what they truly think. And that comes from a society that would rather sweep something under the rug than face it head on. From the Zac Butters incident last week to this and more - the entire AFL from clubs, to umpires, and most importantly the league itself has passed the buck and pointed fingers and avoided accountability at all costs. That is weakness. That is fear. That is not standing up for what is right or being uncomfortable in the truth. And I can’t help but think it starts with little innocuous things like this which seems to be acceptable in this modern discourse - which I find concerning - as it frames any future discussions in a particular way. I just think we should be less afraid to look failure in the eye - and be uncomfortable in it - perhaps then we might actually start to see what it can teach us.

My contribution to the dog discourse is that it's rude to ask a dogless person if you can bring your dog to their home. They know what dogs are. If they wanted a dog in their home, they would own a dog. They don't own a dog because they don't want a dog in their home.

@heavyside @ollycaffrey If you’re actually being honest and objective then you’ve got no issues. You don’t have any information about this situation to be honest about though because you aren’t privy to that information. And we all use boy and girl when referring to people who are adults, it’s normal.

He is his father’s Son. He is not a boy. Language absolutely matters. All that language does is deflect and diminish the ability to have a genuine conversation around accountability. It creates this exact situation where you can no longer call a spade a spade and everyone has to tiptoe around the issues because it will be seen as being mean and insensitive rather than honest and objective.

@heavyside @ollycaffrey You reckon having the full support of your family might be the key to being able to be accountable? And he is his father’s boy. Language matters, if your son is succeeding you say that’s my boy. Your daughter, that’s my girl. You don’t say that’s my man. This is not infantilising

He’s not a boy. He’s a 22 year old Man. Look, as a father I get it - but why do we keep infantilizing grown adults as a way to remove them from any accountability? Actions have consequences. You might not like them, but that’s your lesson to learn. Some lessons are harder learned than others. Everyone seems to want to point the finger at someone else and make it their responsibility. Maybe that’s what’s really wrong with the world. It’s always bloody someone else’s fault. Time for men to be men.

What he told the club on the night and the troubled lead in to the game…. And the type of testing undertaken by AFL clubs that receives results within 60 seconds 👇heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/elij…
