Renter: I just want a normal apartment at a fair price Landlord: best I can do is $2,100 for a “cozy” studio with no laundry and a window facing a brick wall Leasing office: we’ll need 3x rent, a 700+ credit score, and a $75 application fee just to say no Bank: also your paycheck hit your account and immediately left Government: don’t forget taxes Renter: so I work full time to almost afford a place I don’t want and still end up broke

@Breaking57 thats cars for you. blame the auto-lobby for killing public transport, Eisenhower for the interstates to solidify cars forever, and city govs for not thinking things through. also the humans before us that let it happen. cars were the worst inventions humans have ever devised.

It’s just so weird and sad to me that not too long ago, someone with a regular old job could buy a car or even a house. Like an entire house with just their job money.

@BoundryLayer @WallStreetApes The only reason supply is low is because of zoning laws. Illegals and corporate have very little impact for now. The solution to the is to zone for cheap homes and apartments, but this would reduce existing property values so communities fight against it.

@WallStreetApes Basic laws of supply and demand apply. If supply is short, prices go up. Why is supply short? Illegal immigrants / corporate buyers. Why are prices up? Increased regulations. Not only in construction but general business regulations and appliances, raw materials.

American was able to buy her 3 story home in 1989 shortly after getting married She worked a minimum wage job at JC Pennies and her husband worked at a shoe store in the mall They were able to buy this 3 story home and only put $3,000 down “I feel sorry for young people today. This f*cking economy sucks — I don't think two people working retail jobs in the mall can afford to buy a house today and have two paid off cars. And then the wife gets pregnant and she stays home. 'cause that's what I did. That is so unattainable” “In this country, in the United States, everybody in this country should be thriving, not surviving — If you go to work every day, you should be thriving. Something's gotta change. And I am neither side, I'm neither Republican or Democrat. 'cause they're both, they're both evil and crooked” She explains we have the illusion of choice but no matter who we vote for it’s a lie, nothing changes She’s right Home ownership is completely unaffordable and neither side offer any real solutions (so far) to the cost of living crisis. Especially the cost of home ownership and cost of rent crisis Our own Congress can’t even be bothered to pass voter ID….

@Rpt3256318 @WallStreetApes and if you double that (since she had a husband, even though she said they could afford for her to be SAHM) to $5K a month, it is STILL half of their combined income. That is not affordable and well above the recommend % of spending on housing.

@Rpt3256318 @WallStreetApes A target employee makes $17 an hour. After taxes that is $2,443 a month. A mortgage on a 300K with a 6% interest rate is $2,168 dollars per month after taxes and insurance. Please tell me how someone coule budget their remaining 300 for car, health insurance, food, and family?

@Synergizedknwlg @omgsidewalks The worst part is that now with globalization, any country that reduces work hours is hurting their strength on the global stage. We are locked in a standstill war of who can produce the most useless bullshit.

The 40-hour, 50-week year wasn’t designed around human wellbeing. It was designed in the 1920s around factory output. Henry Ford didn’t settle on 40 hours because it was healthy, he settled on it because productivity collapsed beyond that point. A century later, we’re still running the same schedule on knowledge workers whose brains need far more rest than an assembly line ever did.

It’s really annoying that we realize children need a summer break and several vacations a year because they attend school, but we think it makes sense for adults to work 40 hours a week all year and probably get 2–3 weeks off in a whole year if you’re lucky.

@conspiracyb0t the current problem is that they will take your home away from you. yes, obviously there has to be some fee to keep funding ongoing city services, but under threat of eviction is extreme.

@Yanabackupp i cant believe we let thing get this way. thousands of ancestors struggled for me to exist in this moment. and what have we made of it? mass enslavement on a global scale. this is not progress. this is the result of human greed and individualism corrupting the global people.

@OuroborousAB @anoncdn_123 @guyfelicella Living off the land solo is hard, yes. We are tribal animals that used to have generational knowledge passed down. Comparing solo survival now vs then is idiotic. In the last 65 years alone we have lost 70% of the vertebrae population. No shit its going to be harder now

@bot750341 @anoncdn_123 @guyfelicella When you get there, you’ll find out it takes a lot of labour to haul water, build shelter and keep a fire going. But you don’t have tools or a bucket yet so you’ll have to work to find materials, process them and make the objects on top of that. Then you’ll have to

Unpopular opinion: A lot of “mental health issues” are actually survival issues. Secure housing, food in the fridge and bills paid. Stability isn’t a luxury, it’s prevention, and pretending money doesn’t affect mental health is a privilege!
