@Hania16836 Not totally. I believe its tied to the degree of love you have for her. The greater the love, the greater the loss.

@jmbrim3 I totally agree. I am grateful to know that at the very least, that is one commandment I'm on top of! And it is a matter of faith and obedience, not money. The blessings come. Maybe not what you necessarily hope for, but they do come.

With the tithing discourse online surrounding the LDS church I can't help but think about when Elder Bednar spoke at ASU. He was asked why we haven't received more scripture or teachings. He said, “Do you think I want to keep teaching about tithing or the law of chastity? I would love to share more things with you, but until you listen to what we are teaching, now we cannot share more with you.” If we can't figure out or follow the simple stuff like tithing we won't receive more of the blessings and truths God has in store for us. Tithing is not about the money. It is about faith. And it is not a new principle. Malachi 3:10 says, "Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." Those sound like blessings I'd love to qualify for! I also love the principle of tithing because it is one of the commandments we can obey perfectly. Most commandments are much harder to be consistent at. I know the Gospel is not about checklists, but it does feel good to know I have at least one commandment down 😅 Hope you are seeing the blessings of tithing too!

How joyful it was this weekend to sustain President Dallin H. Oaks as the Lord’s prophet and president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a miraculous season in the Church of Jesus Christ. Christine and I are grateful for the new responsibility I have received. I will do all I can to witness to the name of Christ in all the world. Thank you for your sustaining vote of me as a new member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Let us all strive together to emulate the Savior as we love God’s children and invite them to follow Jesus Christ.

The hotel room door clicked shut behind us, and for the first time all day, the noise stopped. No music. No laughter from guests. No more shaking hands and congratulations. Just the quiet. We stood there for a second—newly married, exhausted, still dressed in the tux and wedding dress. I loosened my tie, she kicked off her shoes, and we both laughed—not because anything was funny. “We made it,” she said. “Yes, we did.” There was excitement in the air, sure—but more than that, there was comfort. The kind that comes when you realize the big moment isn’t the ceremony or the crowd… it’s this. Just the two of you, at the end of it all. As we began to change, I slipped off my pants and, half joking, tossed them toward her. “Here,” I said with a grin. “Try these on.” She took them, raising an eyebrow. “Oh really?” “Yeah,” I said, leaning back like I’d just said something clever. “Go ahead.” She stepped into them, pulling them up, and they were way too large for her. “I can’t wear these,” my new wife said. I replied, “Don’t you forget that. I’m gonna wear the pants in this family.” There was a pause. An eye roll. A smirk I eventually knew well. Not a long one—but long enough. Then she reached down, just as casually, and tossed something back at me. “Here,” she said. “You try these on.” I looked at them, confused for half a second before realizing. Still playing along, I stepped into them, pulling them up… and stopping just above my knees. “I can’t get into these!” “Don’t you forget that,” she said. “You’ll never get into my panties again unless you change that attitude.” The humor hadn’t left, but something deeper had stepped in beside it. I looked at her—not laughing now, not defensive either. Just… seeing her. Really seeing her. Not as someone stepping into his life—but as someone standing beside me in it. Equal. Strong. Clear. And in that moment, I understood something that would take some people years to learn. This wasn’t about who wore what. It was about how they would walk—together. “Alright dear,” I said. “Fair enough.” She smiled back, the tension gone, replaced with something stronger than either of us had expected to build that night. Respect. And from that point on, whenever life tested us—and it would—we both remembered that moment. The pants. The lesson. And the promise, the vows we made that night for better or worse. We never forgot those. Fifty years later I’m alone without her by my side but know she is watching over me, knowing I will join her again one day.

@jesse_k_fox @TFloodeen How blessed we are to know that the plan of salvation and the atonement ensures us that the separation is temporary. I understand the feelings. Get them myself. Just know you are not alone.

Missing my dad right now. He passed away 10 years ago from a sudden heart attack while golfing. He was healthy—playing 100+ rounds a year—so it was the most shocking thing I’ve ever experienced. He served his mission in London, England, alongside Elder Holland and Elder Cook.
