🇺🇦🇧🇬 Ukraine and Bulgaria have signed a 10-year security agreement. Key points include: - Bulgarian investments in joint weapons production, including drones, under the SAFE program; - Bulgaria’s accession to the PURL program to support Ukraine’s air defense; - Strong support for Ukraine’s EU accession; - Creation of an energy corridor to enable gas supplies to Ukraine; - Joint demining efforts in the Black Sea.

Bulgaria is one of Ukraine’s key partners in South-Eastern Europe. During my meeting at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria, Andrey Gyurov, I thanked him and the people of Bulgaria for their consistent support for our state, contribution to Ukraine’s recovery, and readiness to continue standing with us. We are truly united by much: a shared history, human ties, the security of the Black Sea, and the closeness of our peoples. We discussed the restoration of energy infrastructure and Ukraine’s European integration, as well as further cooperation on ensuring the aggressor’s international accountability and involving Bulgarian businesses in reconstruction. Andrey Gyurov stressed that Ukraine can count on support both in resisting aggression and in rebuilding. He also noted the resilience of Ukraine’s democratic institutions, which continue to function in wartime. We value this clear and friendly position.

For the first time, the governments of Ukraine and Bulgaria have held joint consultations. This marks an important step toward a new level of cooperation between our countries. I am grateful to Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov and all members of the Bulgarian Government for their visit to Kyiv and for their readiness to deepen cooperation in areas of strategic importance to both our nations. We adopted a joint statement and agreed on a roadmap for cooperation covering energy, defense, transport, Black Sea security, education, and minority rights. Our discussions focused in particular on energy cooperation – including the possibilities to increase gas supplies through the Vertical Gas Corridor and the Trans-Balkan route, and the use of the Ukrainian underground gas storage. Exchange of experience in nuclear energy management is also particularly important for us. I also thanked Bulgaria for providing energy support. Among the other key topics were Black Sea security and demining, the development of a new railway line, and strengthening Bulgaria’s role in Ukraine’s reconstruction, particularly in the Odesa region. We also addressed minority rights and signed a protocol between the Ministries of Education of both countries at the Georgi Rakovski Bolhrad Gymnasium in Odesa region. We highly appreciate Bulgaria’s strong support for Ukraine’s path to the European Union. We agreed to hold the next round of intergovernmental consultations in Bulgaria in the coming months.

Today, together with Prime Minister of Bulgaria Andrey Gurov, we signed a security agreement between our countries for at least 10 years. The key provisions include the continuation of military support from Bulgaria to Ukraine. An important element is joint production of various types of weapons on the territory of our country, including drones. Bulgaria will use the SAFE instrument for such co-production. I am grateful for the positive signal that Bulgaria is contributing to the PURL initiative. This is an opportunity for us to strengthen our air defense strategy. Energy is also very important. We are working to ensure an active energy corridor. This is extremely important for us today. This corridor could amount to around 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year that Ukraine can receive. For us, this also represents security guarantees – in the energy sector. Thank you for this visit and for these important agreements. 🇺🇦🇧🇬

Bulgaria withdraws from Trump’s corruption scheme called Board of Peace. Last year, the government of PM Zhelyazkov joined the Board days before collapsing amid massive anti-corruption protests. The protests were in fact caused by the same kind of corruption that led the government to curry favor with Trump. There’s a politician, the oligarch Peevski, who’s well known for his pervasive influence in Bulgarian politics and massive corruption, to the point that he’s sanctioned by the US and the UK. The EU has not done anything about it, which is part of the problem. The guy not only steals EU money, but is also. Kremlin conduit, like Orbán (whose government is the only other EU member to join that Board). Obviously, bribing Trump with $1 billion of Bulgarian taxpayer money is a great deal for Peevski to be taken off the sanctions list. The current government withdrew Bulgaria and indirectly cited this as the reason. The best way to do it would be to argue before the Constitutional Court so as to get a pretext that could help avoid Trump’s tantrum, which the toddler is sure to throw. The fact that everyone had to walk on eggshells around this toddler is just as obnoxious that another EU member could be so thoroughly corrupt as to rival Hungary.

Robert De Niro recorded a touching message to Ukrainians: “Good people in the United States support you in your struggle against immoral russian aggression. Stay strong.” He finished with: “Slava Ukraini.” The world needs more voices like this. Thank you.

Kurt Volker, Former U.S. Ambassador to NATO: It's perplexing how Viktor Orbán gets away with being Putin's closest friend in Europe. Hungarians have no love for Russians, they remember 1956 when the Soviets crushed their revolution, and 1848 when Russians and Austrians toasted over executed Hungarian generals (that's why Hungarians still avoid clinking beer glasses). Yet Orbán maintains heavy dependence on Russian oil and gas. Hungary has always been strongly pro-Western, tied to the EU and US, with deep nationalism. Turning that against EU partners like Poland or the U.S. is strange. Orbán tries to justify it by claiming alignment with Trump against the "deep state" and shared conservatism. But American conservatives are highly skeptical of Russia, anti-China, and value strong alliances - exactly the opposite of what Orbán is doing.
