The Hero vs the Warrior……. There is a difference between a hero and a warrior.   The hero wants to win. They want success. They want the outcome. They want the glory.   When the hero is winning they are looking at the score and clock, wanting it to move faster so the game can end and they can win.   The warrior isn’t concerned with the score, the outcome or the time on the clock.   The warrior doesn’t seek or want glory.   The warrior loves the battle.   The warrior is focused on the NOW and they fight to the end!   As I wrote this, I thought about many times in my past when I was a hero and other times when I was a warrior.   Back then I didn’t know I could choose.   Now I know that I can. And so can you.   You can choose to be a hero or a warrior.   You can focus on the numbers, constantly look at the scoreboard, seek recognition, want the glory and hope for the win.   Or you can be totally engaged in the present moment with the people in front of you, love the battle and give your all until the end.   When I spoke to the Arizona Diamondbacks during spring training and talked about the difference between a hero and a warrior they gave me a shirt that had NOW on the front of the shirt and WON on the back.   NOW and WON are reversals of each other.   When you become a Warrior and focus on the NOW you will have WON!   Which will you choose to be? Hero or Warrior?

More and more, the Occlusion Myocardial Infarction vs. Non-Occlusion paradigm (OMI/NOMI) is overtaking the old and useless STEMI/NonSTEMI paradigm. Listen here to ⁦@josenalencar

Real positivity isn’t soft. It’s strong. It’s resilience and mental toughness. It’s overcoming negativity and adversity. It’s seeing all the crap in the world and choosing a positive attitude and a path forward.

The ED is where every gap in healthcare shows up: Housing, insurance, mental health, addiction, primary care access. We’re not just the front line of medicine. We’re the front line of society.

The Best Way to Be The Most Powerful You! A friend asked me if I could share one lesson I learned while speaking to a bunch of college and pro teams during Training Camp last week, what would it be? I really had to think about this because when you are spending time with incredible leaders there is going to be some serious wisdom shared. As I reflected and made notes about each visit and each conversation I had with each coach and what I observed (I’m a student and teacher of leadership) I realized there is a common theme, lesson and characteristic they all shared. They are all very authentic and because they are so authentic they are powerful! Kevin O’Connell, the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings told me when he took the job he said, ”All I can be is me because that’s all I know how to be.” This might not seem revolutionary at first glance yet so many leaders struggle because they aren’t authentic. They try to be like the leader they worked for or try to be what they think a leader should be or what others expect them to be. Kevin didn’t try to be Sean McVay who he worked for at the LA Rams. He decided to be himself and his Vikings culture was one of the best I’ve ever experienced. Every place I visited you could feel the authentic power of the leader. Whether it was Dabo being Dabo, Dave Canales sharing relentless optimism, Trent Dilfer pouring his heart and soul into his players and turning pain into his greater purpose, there was a spirit and energy so strong I didn’t want to leave. I joined Matt Rhule, the head coach of Nebraska for his new podcast. Yes, he started a new podcast (I believe other coaches will follow his lead) as he boldly builds Nebraska football into a contender once again. He’s the most himself he’s ever been and he’s the most powerful he’s ever been. Which is saying a lot because he has built numerous successful programs. Liam Coen, the new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars even has authentic as one of his core values because he realized it was one of the key ingredients to his success and rise as a leader and coach. He and his GM want their players to be the real and best version of themselves. When you are the most authentically you, you are the most powerful you. Replicas are cheap. Originals are priceless. Fake is weak. Real is powerful. You don’t have to be like anyone else. You are enough. You being you is what people want and will connect to the most. In a world that wants you to be like everyone else when you decide to be your real, unique self others will gravitate to you, connect with you, and want to be lead by you. Lead Positive, Jon

If you made a mistake, apologize quickly. If you are confused, ask more questions. If you miss someone, reach out to them. If you appreciate someone, show them. If you want to feel lighter, forgive first. If you are stuck, ask others for help. If you love someone, tell them, now.

20 things great bosses do to earn our trust, loyalty and respect: 1 tell us our work matters 2 open career doors for us 3 defend us when we needed it 4 recognize and reward us 5 develop us as leaders 6 inspire us to stretch higher 7 lead by example (player and coach) 8 provide us a safe space to grow 9 forgive us when we made mistakes 10 appreciate high rate of learning 11 challenge assumptions starting with their own 12 are player coaches - skin in the game 13 apologize when they made mistakes 14 sponsor our work (career pathing) 15 lead us by questions not answers (taught us how to think, not what to think) 16 in a celebration led from the back, in a crisis led from the front, in the presence of a better plan, followed side-to-side 17 proactively ask for feedback 18 allow the best ideas to win, not the best titles 19 show up on time, left when it made sense to leave 20 do not speak poorly behind others back
