@RichardAFerraro I think that the exam skills have diminished w each generation; therefore, we don’t have the teachers who CAN teach it. Trainees certainly got up earlier and worked longer days in previous generations, so I can’t attribute it to that.

Two observations from a cardiologist who has always believed in the physical exam: 1. Residents and fellows will sometimes look at you as if you’re doing a party trick. 2. Even when I do a focused, cursory exam of a patient, patients tell me that it is the most thorough physical examination that they have had in years.
