Richie Saunders represents everything great about BYU, loyalty, commitment, work ethic and teamwork. He’s one of the greatest players in Cougar Hoops history. His quick and deadly three point shooting and ability to finish around the rim are elite skills. His rise from role player to Big 12 Most Improved Player/1st Teamer to All-American candidate has been inspiring to watch. Long live the Tater Tot King!

@TheWildUte @SportsTalk_304 @CouzWalker This is likely the outcome. Pro football weighs the costs and ROI. Right now there is no ROI on NIL for donors. This could start some accountability. When you need a return you are not going to overpay for players. It won’t make financial sense to do so.

Texas Tech and BYU could be the biggest losers in the Utah Utes innovative private equity deal. No more free donations/oil/cookies when your conference foe is selling investment equity stake in athletics to its rich boosters. An investment instead of a gift—game changing.

@x_hems When you have this type of money involved they want a return. I believe they will be less likely to forgive players skipping town after a year and players who don’t perform. They also will likely not “overpay” and to win at all costs.

Fascinating strategy if this goes through - $500M will absolutely inject the program with the resources it needs to compete today. But would Private Equity have too much control over University decisions? Will this negatively impact olympic sports which the U is very good at?
Ross Dellenger@RossDellenger

In a groundbreaking endeavor, the University of Utah athletics is entering into what could be a $500M+ equity partnership with Otro Capital featuring the creation and shared ownership of a for-profit entity to operate athletics, sources tell @YahooSports. bit.ly/44hUcZJ

Can someone explain to me why Kalani Sitake wears a flower necklace to football games like I’m an uncultured white from South Texas

@Blutman27 This is spot on. How many head coaches are hanging on the field with fans until midnight on road games? Not out of a sponsorship deal but out of love for the game and team. Encouraging the youngsters to cheer for BYU and meet the players? The guy embodies what we want BYU to be.

Honest thought Penn State’s offer to Kalani Sitake should’ve resulted in a surefire hiring that the other program couldn’t even think to match Personally.. in this situation, I think almost every program would’ve let their HC walk and understood why… BYU’s really the lone exception. A bunch of sports crazed maniacs who want nothing more than to win but do it with their family. It took an entire community to completely flip the script here and give them a chance at retaining their HC after a monster and “desperate” PSU offer. I respect BYU’s hunger, drive, passion, and sports community so so much. A lot of athletics programs could learn a thing or two from these guys.

@BudElliott3 @Cover3Podcast You could not be more accurate in this assessment. He is a great coach and really nice guy. BYU fans want to win just like anyone but we also want to win a certain way adhering to our standards and we need our coach to embrace those and Kalani does.

Sitake is worth a lot more to BYU than he is to Penn State. Spoke about this yesterday on @Cover3Podcast Penn State’s potential hiring pool is enormous. BYU potential hiring pool given the LDS requirement to be the head coach is microscopic.

I arrived in Provo as a young man with @BNKonFOX not knowing what to expect. I was overwhelmed with all the love I received from Cougar Nation. From Cosmo to Kalani it was all love. From the ice cream to the dirty soda to the weird guy at the pizza shop it was all love. Coach Sitake danced his way into my heart. There is no place like Provo and Provo can’t exist without BYU football. And BYU football can’t exist without Kalani. And neither can #ProvoDave Stay Kalani Stay!
Jason McGowan@jasonmcgowan

Why do you love Kalani? What does it mean to you to have @kalanifsitake as our head coach at BYU? Right now is the moment to let Kalani feel the love, respect, and gratitude of Cougar Nation. He has given everything to this program. Let’s show him how much he means to all of us. To make it fun, I’m giving away four 50 yard line seats and airfare to the Big 12 Championship game for two incredible responses. Share your heart. Let’s lift Kalani together. 💙🏈
