There has been some discussion over the last few days about the @NCC_CCN's decision to restrict vehicle access to Queen Elizabeth Drive along The Canal. As someone who cares deeply about @ottawacity and city building, I thought I would add my opinion. #urbandesign

Only 4.6% of people commute to work by walking. We should remove all sidewalks, to make more room for drivers. It’s just common sense.

According to a study from a few years ago, the amount of road space given to bikes in Montreal’s boroughs ranged from 0.6% to 2.5%. The amount of space given to cars ranged from 63% to 89%. The bike number is probably a little higher today, but still. War on cars? I think not.

Many of us at Ottawa City Council have the same position as my colleague @JLeiper. "Neither residents nor Queen's Park can blame cyclists for congestion on Parkdale Avenue or Merivale Road." This is senseless provincial overreach. ottawacitizen.com/opinion/leiper… via @ottawacitizen

Hey there @PurePaveTech. I’m an Ottawa City Councillor, and love to learn about stormwater management infrastructure. Can we meet? Thanks @BradMBradford for posting this.
Brad Bradford@BradMBradford

Toronto has been through some massive floods this summer. We need to look at all possible solutions to manage and mitigate the impacts these have on residents and the entire city. Yesterday I got to learn more about @PurePaveTech and I’m genuinely impressed.

@DevineSean @Toon_Dreessen @duncrae Good to hear. It’s not only about how it limits building types but also how it hampers our public space around buildings (causes larger floor plates which reduce public space). Would be happy to contribute to the discussion.

I’m meeting with City of Ottawa housing and building code staff later this month to discuss this issue. Our options for new apartment buildings are limited by this requirement. Eager to see where Ottawa and Ontario can go. With @Toon_Dreessen and @duncrae

A very cogent history of Toronto’s embrace and rejection of tall buildings.
Paul Kulig@PaulKulig_TO

@NovakovicTO @ZoeCoombes We used to do unapologetically tall buildings in the 60s. They were fine in the suburbs but people got upset when it started happening in the Victorian neighborhoods they valourized like the Annex or Yorkville. 1/
